'The Simpsons' renewed through historic 30th season

“The Simpsons” is about to make history, again, with Fox renewing the animated sitcom for two more seasons, bringing the total to 30.

The renewal will bring the total number of episodes to 669, surpassing the previous record, held by “Gunsmoke” at 635, for the most ever by a scripted program.

“The Simpsons” already has “Gunsmoke” beat on season count: The CBS Western aired for 20 seasons while Fox’s animated series has been televised for 28 seasons — the most by far of any primetime show.

It recently aired its landmark 600th episode, which was a new Halloween-themed “Treehouse of Horror” installment.

That'd be kinda cool, but I think also kind of hard. The voice actor that plays many of the male voices is already 72, he will be 75 when the series wraps if this is the last renewal, and 80 if renewed through 35. Many of the other actors are also in their late 50's and early 60s, so at some point we'll just (unfortunately) lose the voice actors. Without the voice actors, the show wouldn't be the same.

Yeah, we nearly lost Harry Shearer, and without him the show would have been really different.
