The Sirius press release on Super Shuffle

SIRIUS TO DEBUT NEW "SUPER SHUFFLE" MUSIC CHANNEL

Features continuous mix of genres and artists

NEW YORK – August 30, 2005 - SIRIUS Satellite Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI), the content leader in radio, announced today that it has developed another innovative music format for its subscribers. The new channel, called "Super Shuffle," will showcase the wide variety of music offered on SIRIUS' commercial-free music platform.

“Now for the first time, SIRIUS subscribers can hear the best songs from all of our 65 commercial-free music channels mixed together seamlessly on one super channel,” said Scott Greenstein, SIRIUS President of Entertainment and Sports.

Likening the new channel’s programming to the varied and seamless selection on listeners’ favorite MP3 or portable music player, Greenstein added, “Many music lovers prefer to listen to a continuous mix of genres and artists, and Super Shuffle will deliver that above and beyond any other music source.”

SIRIUS' new Super Shuffle channel will showcase the most popular songs across all the genres represented on SIRIUS’ 65 commercial free music channels. SIRIUS listeners who prefer to hear more of a certain style of music exposed on Super Shuffle will be directed, on the receiver's digital display and through audio cues, to a full channel on SIRIUS dedicated to that genre or era.

Super Shuffle will debut on SIRIUS on September 29th. For more information about SIRIUS, visit www.sirius.com.

Yep, way to broad to be like by anyone. .

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss this, depending how it's done. I'm guessing it will be more hit oriented than Disorder, which does kind of the same thing (and does a pretty good job if you are open minded). It was the radio programmers that created the narrowly defined formats of the last 25 years, not consumers. Actual radio users have tended to be more flexible than programmers care to acknowledge, especially people over 30. That's why JACK works. I'm 45 and grew up on what is now classic rock, but I also like some jazz, r&b, and old and new country, alternative and pop. Conventional radio people say the "Gimme Shelter" into Garth Brooks' "Low Places" into Benny Goodman's "Sing, sing" into "American Idiot" into Outkast into Gwen Stefani's "Cool" is a colossal train wreck. I say that could be a pretty good set of power tunes! It's the kind of radio I grew up with in the dark ages -- the same hodgepodge of genres found on the barroom jukeboxes back then that everybody seemed to like. An old idea is new again.

I am one who was very happy about the announcement of the new "SuperShuffle" channel, but after the press release, I don't know. I wanted a "Jack FM" type format. If that is what "SuperShuffle" is, I will be happy. But from the announcement it sounds like "SuperShuffle" may be way more broad than the "Jack FM" format. I want the typical oddball mix of classic hits/Hot AC, etc. that the Jack stations normally play. I don't want to hear a shuffle of everything under the sun (world music, classic country, etc.). That's a bit too much for one channel. I really hope Sirius programs this channel like a "Jack FM" format and not simply as a complete hodgepodge sampler of ALL of their channels.

Keep in mind that Jack FM isn't just an oddball mix of classic hits and hot AC. I've heard at least one classic country track on a few of the Jack stations. Granted, it was "Devil Went Down to Georgia," which is at least acceptable to the typical rock fan and got some crossover play when it was new. I don't know what Sirius Super Shuffle will be, but I have a feeling it won't be everything under the sun, though it may indeed be broader than your typical Jack station.

Exactly, and that's why I'm thinking a big rebirth of mainstream CHR will be the NEXT big thing.
