The only little issue I have with The Groove is that they are in a position to innovate but outside of the fact that they do play real undiluted smooth jazz they stick to the traditional playbook: a lot of talk about relaxation, focusing on the "singles" (which are rarely the best song on the CD..usually they are the most unobtrusive) , low key-whispery on-air delivery. a really mellow music mix-lack of uptempo songs, and the tendency to focus on "upscale" when promoting events. (very 1987, especially in the current economy where this music could actually be very healing and escapist for real people) .But taken for what it is, a traditional smooth jazz station, and not expecting innovation, they do better than anyone else on the broadcast airwaves these days. And the demographics down there do tend to lean towards retirees-thats an area that still supports MOYL and B/EZ so the relaxation thing is probably fine there.
