The Song in Indy is Gone

With WURK on 101.7 from Elwood, how in the world did that translator get licensed to Muncie. It must get clobberred every time there's the slightest band opening.

As for the existing Song topic, one of the biggest turn-offs for me in any kind of Christian radio is the "I'm right, and I'm going to show you how you are wrong" mentality that pervades much of it. Or "you're only a Christian if you act like me, dress like me and think like me."

Yes, Gr8, but that's an issue for you in real life, isn't it? That comment's not just about radio. You have things you're still trying to work out for yourself, and you're finding yourself attaching them to radio on a radio message board.

But, by the way, I can't even remember the last time I heard anything like that on the radio.

Take WJCF out of the list and it's a good list of stations. Add Spirit 95 out of Bloomington to the list, too. I can't remember its call letters or exact dial position.

Bitternes? Would you like fries with that?

weak signal and weak operation on WJCF...seems there's
a bad history here too...with wanting to take over high
school fm opportunities... courts etc etc...do on to others? :(

Those who can do, those who can't.... What court case? Didn't exist.

Respectfully Chief, you need to cut Frenchman some major slack. You or I may not agree with some of his views. But short of the late Gary Arnold or perhaps Dave White a.k.a. Jay Carpenter, I can't think of anyone who has busted his backside more for the growth of Christian radio in Indianapolis. There wouldn't be a WJCF or a WGNR were it not for the groundwork of people like Frenchman.

Wow, thanks for the kind comments. I WILL take some fries, I mean, frites (as the French say) with that. Frites is pronounced freets. I expect to hear DJs everywhere using that word today. Carry on.

And I say why waste time somewhere else with his talent?

He should be back in but North Shadeland liked his idea and dumped him as rumor has it. A good idea that worked yet failed for the management - not the listeners.

If you streamed on the internet people would listen, so why not get back in the water?

I appreciate your comments Chief, but all my "talent" and $2.00 will get me a large coffee at Starbucks. I'm sure others in Christian radio have found this to be so and it's this, that if one wants to work in Christian radio and support a family at the same time it won't happen on the DJ/production/programming side.
It was fun but fun doesn't pay the bills. Even on other radio-info boards I can tell that that's why so many contributors USED to work in radio.

Ah, now I understand CE's comment. Steve White is excellent on the air because that's where his heart is. Being the GM of WBRI/WXIR was also his job but his passion was being on-air, interacting with listeners.

I'll trust that MightyFrenchman won't mind my clarifying that he is not Steve White.

Just had a look @ R&R. The Song pulled a 3.7 tied Radio NOU for #8 12+. I've heard it pulled #3 in it's target demo. Nice way to go out. (Just a Question. Why does the managment bother to put The Song on HD2 and stream it online if they were only in it for the money?)

I noticed that....was just waiting to see if anyone else would, too. ;D

Now, the question is this -- why doesn't one of those class Bs in the market that can never quite find its niche put it on yesterday and see if it can get an even higher number? (Awaiting "Christmas music" argument....not that I have some response, just expecting it.)

If an Indy station is thinking about doing that, please give me a call.

It won't be long. Someone else will do the format here.
Just a shame that Cumulus didn't see the value of the format in Indy.
3.7 12plus and 3rd 25-54 ain't bad!

No...no, it ain't bad, at all! And that was on a signal that almost certainly cost you a good deal of at-work listening and outlying listeners...probably fairly easily a 4.5 12+ station on a class B. Very nice job with it.

Welcome to the board, Kurt! Coming in, you might want to know that the poster known as "Mighty Frenchman" probably thinks I'm you and you're me. Now, here we are "talking" to each other, which is probably making him even more suspicious. ;D

I wish you well and great luck in getting the format back on there (assuming you want to stay)...IMO, it's a great city......

What a fine time to switch to Talk. Check out cumulus numbers or rather point number in Cinnci and try to find anything from Atlanta for cumulus talk.

Kurt,

Many of us are curious to hear what you're doing these days.

Sticking around Indy?

Sorry to burst your bubble Neutral, but it never crossed my mind that you might be Kurt Wallace.

I'm just joking around, MF.

On the other hand, you might recall saying, "Given the bitter nature of your responses (neutral???) observer, I assume you must have worked at The Song and have been fired..." That could be only Kurt or Doug, and, given that Doug didn't have a regular airshift as a priority and presumably would have no reason to care much about what he supposedly couldn't say, it would be very hard for that to be Doug.

Just wanting to protect the innocent and maybe lighten things up at the same time.....
