THE SOUNDS OF TINO COCHINO TO HIT THE AIRWAVES OF SAN ANTONIO

Actually REWIND's cool with it...but it was originally created by C.K. formerly of KDAY in LA...and I've gotten the trademark on it...so it's all good...at least for me.

HOLY CRAP HIS RAPPING SUCKS!!!!! :-*

or what about a guy from Odessa who can't bite another jock's style anymore because that jock is now in the same town as him?

HOLD UP! We are talking about Tino Cochino at 104-9 The Beat in Lubbock right? Where he did "The Slammin 7 @ 7:47" and "Heartbeats"????
Things that sure sound familiar, because I created them at KQBT The Beat 104.3 in Austin in 1998! Then brought them with me to SA in 2000! Sure sounds original to me...LOL. Hopefully, he'll be as original in SA as he was in LUBBOCK.

Trust me - neither one had anything to do with you - and neither was an original idea when you started doing them.

I was the station's first PD. I stole the "Slammin' 7 @ 7:47" from KKWD Oklahoma City - where I was a jock and it was called "Wild 7 @ 7:47." If the idea was stolen from anyone it was Jerry Clifton - Wild's consultant. KBTE's consultant wanted a countdown. I picked the time and name and "The Beat's 7 @ 7:47" just didn't have the right sound. It needed an adjective like Wild or Slammin.

If you want to talk about an idea being stolen - I was the first person to use the concept "Total Request Lunch" for a lunchtime request show. I've since seen that feature on dozens of stations. Of course, it was a blatant ripoff of MTV's TRL when I started using it.

Stations have been doing late night slow jams shows forever. That's nothing new. Since the station was called "The Beat" and it was a love song driven show, "Heartbeats" wasn't much of a stretch. I'm pretty sure it wasn't an original idea when you started doing it either Romeo.

What was original was the way Tino presented it. It was funny as hell and very original. I won't say what he did in case he decides to use it again, but it definitely worked.

Interesting...i guess great minds think alike...i remember putting together my show in '98 and putting the countdown before KHFI started theirs at 8pm, wanted to get a jump on them and put the countdown non stop between my :42 and :13 stopsets...that's how i came up with it...well hopefully TINO will get to show us how creative he can be...I'm all for JOCKS moving up to BIGGER markets...so good luck to him.

Maybe Clifton stole it from you. Who knows... Wild did it in 2000 and Clifton brought the idea to us.

STAY TUNED SA TOWN

[EDIT--vulgarity]

YO YO YO Y'ALL! How exciting it is to have all this rap stuff on the air in ALAMOTOWN! Shout out to all you pimps and ho's and all that....
Just a suggestion... Could you maybe check into this music thing? There's something called Melody. The notes go up and down, and believe it or not, they have a mathmatical relationship that creates harmony. It can be quite delightful if you know what to look for. And some songs have lyrics that are sung, instead of shouted. They can be uplifting, inspiring, and often communicate significant meaning or feeling. Some performers have dynamic range, and use the way they sing to create moods that amplify the meaning of the songs they sing. Some tunes are instrumental. The performers often improvise within a 'key', to bring together the notes in ways that can surprise and delight the listener.
There's all kinds of this 'music'. Orchestral, choral, be-bop, rock and roll, big band swing and more. Check it out. You might just like it.

WOW>>>>the person above me is a retard. hip hop is a style of music you ****en idiot. its just that you don't understand it so you make you comments about the kind of music you listen to and compare it to a music that isn't supposed to sound like the music you listen to at all. if you haven't noticed they aren't doing it on purpose. its just that this kind of music is supposed to sound like this. since you know nothing about it then that makes you sound retarded when you put it down. same thing with country or rock they sound the way they do because thats the kind of music it is. so next time you put hip hop down realize that, HEY MAYBE THATS HOW ITS SUPPOSED TO SOUND.....you must be from san antonio or austin because people down here are barely figuring out what hip hop is supposed to sound like so i dont blame you for being a DUMB ASS. you are forgiven on behalf of the HiP hOP nation, which by the way is the biggest grossing music industry in the WORLD....meaning hip hop is bigger than any other music genre ....so get used to iT PAHTNAH

HA HA HA HA !!!!!
I thought I'd get you going!
I get it. I know what rap is. That car next to me with the mega-bass bashing my ear-drums, the misogynist shouting obscenities about his genitalia and how he would like to have sexual congress with women he has no respect for. Yeah, I get it. And I've had it. And I feel sorry for you if you can't take a joke. YO YO YO. There are more flava's at the ice cream store than vanilla and chocolate. Anyone who is so wapped up in the lifestyle and identity of such a backwards style that they can't accept anybody else's tastes is to be pitied.
Now get off my yard, ya darn kids!

If you are foolish enough to disrespect hip hop start a new thread.

Back to the subject, glad the kid made such a big jump all the way to market #29 but I wasnt impressed. Oh, and why did I hear a spot with Robbies voice on it and why do the stopsets have spanish speaking commercials??? I can hear all you people already saying this and that about money is money no matter what kind of spot it is BUT, if I was running that station I wouldnt let those all spanish speaking spots anywhere near my brand new hip hop station. Even the beat doesnt do that sort of thing.

Beat 1, Power 0

i would assume he does the production for the advertiser? he can since he is a free agent now

Say NEWSCHOOL210

shout outs man....i know of no black Dj's in SA. but they need to bring some quick and put them on the AiR on a STATION here. i thought Power was going to change that but i guess not. i heard TiNO on the radio on POWER 106 and ill give him mad props cuz he sounds HiP HoP and he doesnt sound like he is trying to hard to be HIP HOP like the whack ones on the BEAT. Hamm is tight and so is valencia but the morning crew's gotta BOUNCE out to another genre or music. ITS LIKE SAN ANTONIO'S GOTTA a NO [EDIT] POLICY WHEN It COMES TO REPPIN HIP HOP ON THE air I DONT UNDERSTAND??????????????????????????????????????????????????????

[EDIT--racial epithet.]

Seriously, as someone at one time charged with minority recruitment and FCC compliance, I can tell you that ANY broadcaster would welcome a qualified African American applicant, especially one interested in a part time position. My hunch is that the general condition of radio these days has discouraged anyone with anything to say for themselves from entering the business. There was an African American man working mid-days at KONO a few years ago, but I don't know if he's still there. My friend Mike Jones was on KTSA/KTFM back in the day, but he quit to join the SAPD. Say, BOI, why don't you apply?
(And please don't use the "N" word....)

Sorry, but ima have to agree with grantchester. Today's Hip-hop kinda well....blows. All they talk about is Hoes this and pimps that and biches this. I enjoyed Hip-Hop way better back in the day when mostof this stuff was absent. Today, you see artist like Jibby making little Kids songs into "wangster" (couldn't resist) by re-wording them. (Let your chaing Hang Low, anyone know what kids song this is?) Today's Hip-hop has to be the worst by far. I don't mind the bulgarity, but can someone around the world of Hip-hop come up with something besides hoes, pimps, bitches, grills, and money???
