I always wondered why some station does not beat or nearly beat KNST in the ratings. I have heard some some scarey part timers reading the news and most of thier canned programming is nothing special. I guess after 20 plus years of continuos local news and Rush on the air, KNST becomes an automatic "preset" on your car??? ???

Compare the news coverage between 1290 and 790. 1290 has a very sensationalized, almost exasperated tone to it. 790, just the facts. 790 also doesn't drop the headline teaser every 15 min. I wonder why Chuck Meyer thinks this works. It is just plain silly. Morning drive audience gets one shot at hearning the news during commute, Meyer gives a teaser. Thats bad radio.
 
Hmmmm, me thinks "amtucson" is an employee of KNST? Or worse yet the JERK, 'er Jolt. Nonetheless, to me 1290 is far and away more professional than KNST. And JOLT is a JOKE.

(Anticipating amtucsons challenge forthcoming...) No, as a matter of fact I do not work for the Source.

Nor do I for any radio station. Just opinions. If it makes you feel better I will rip KNST for someting other than news reporting!
 
May as well, you guys seem pretty good at ripping people. I seem to have escaped your fury so far though :)

I dare you guys to listen to my show for a week, and tell me it's not professional.

...and by the way Northwest Bobby, I"VE been reading the news mornings at KNST for the past couple of years before getting the Talk slot. Ten years of Boston and Providence anchoring shouldn't have me sounding like a rookie or part-timer. Do you guys even listen to the stations you're talking about?

We just had one of the largest ratings jump of any morning show in the market. Possibly the highest morning talk numbers in years here. Maybe ever. Google the inside tucson business story of a week or so ago, if you want to see the actual numbers (I'm told I shouldn't post numbers here true?).

There is a reason for this, and it is NOT because we're on KNST. We do not do the 'Angry White Man" routine so many others do. We do what I feel is just good old fashioned fun, intelligent radio. Kinda like getting a good jock and adding talk to it.

Give us a listen if you haven't recently. It's not what you might expect, and we're grabbing a lot of music listeners into the fold.

Has to have something to do with the news coverage in morning drive hours. There really is a difference. That is all I have been saying.
 
I'm talking about vintage era 2000, the last time I spent time listning to KNST. Have heard bits and pieces when they were online, don't know if they stream today??? ???

The most recent ratings book. I can't post numbers here or I would. I love the negativity. Try googling Inside Tucson Business, they list Tucson's Morning Show with a 30% gain in the morning. It was the best morning book at least that I've seen in the past couple years here, as well as the largest gap between KNST and the other talkers.

I fought the urge to post, because i know most of you are into the music stations mostly, and don't follow day-to-day KNST, but still, when Bobby is talking about how bad we sound, and he admits he hasn't heard us in SIX YEARS lol then I felt the need to speak up.

I'm passionate about our show because it's NOT hate radio, or 'border talk', or all-politics. It's closer to a traditional morning show from the good old days, and solid interviews/talk. Try it sometime.

And it also proves the point to the wholesalers and mass marketers that local is what sells down here. Local always gets the axe in favor of some Mancow style canned noise... But local also has to be good. That is why Rapp and Meyer are so frustrating. At least Jim here does some reasonable show prep. Geez, these two aren't talking to each other before going on the air.... if so one is not listening to the other.
 
I only met Mike Rapp once...my first day at KNST. He was nice.

Though we DID deliver Tucson's Morning Show mugs to them along with coffee and donuts when they started their talk format recently :)

Now thats Old School! I didn't get any Mugs or Donuts...that bites! Hopefully they weren't the Stale Donuts left in the studio last weekend. You could hammer a nail with those! I found Skyler, he's doing mornings in Palm Springs at a Top40/Hip Hop Station!

I am not saying anything negative about him personally. He seems to be a very nice guy. I only offer a critique of what comes through the air. Most people would probably agree that he is a nice guy, good person, etc.... That doesn't mean he does talk radio well....
 
Never met Rapp so don't know if he is a nice guy. But I always thought he came off smug and kind of a prick.
