The Spirit Talent Search in Cedar Rapids

KWOF-FM / 89.1 The Spirit in Cedar Rapids, Iowa will conduct open tryouts. Why not? It worked for the Eagles back in the 70s.

While America is looking for its next idol...The Spirit is searching for our next morning show cohost with The Spirit Talent Search. For all the details and qualifications, check out this link...

Females strongly encouraged to tryout!

"Females Strongly Encouraged" usually means they already have in mind that they want a female anyways, so guys.. put on a dress, and lipstick :)

The only guy allowed to wear a skirt at the Spirit is Jack Davis...

so don't even think about it! =)

Bless ya, Jack.

Your friend and former co-worker,

I did a similar thing at Yes-FM (www.yeshome.com) in the Toledo, OH area this past summer. They called their competition "The Cohost", similar to the Trump TV show "The Apprentice." Unlike the Spirit's competition, Yes-FM's was designed to fill a time gap while they searched in-house and around for a permanent cohost to replace a recently departed cohost. The main morning show host was/is also the general manager I believe, and he along with some other staffers of the station were the "judges".

I thought it would have made the perfect internship during summer break from college, so I submitted a demo like they requested. I made the first cut, leading to a few 4+ hour round trips from my home west of Akron to the Yes-FM Toledo studio (which meant leaving home at 3:30 a.m.!!!). They slowly whittled down the contestants each week by one, and I made it to the final 3 before I was voted off. I was somewhat bummed I didn't win, but I still had the opportunity to go on air in a rated market three times! It was a very fun experience that I wouldn't trade away. I'm very thankful for that opportunity and have nothing but great memories from the staff at Yes-FM. By the way, if any of you reading this work there, THANK YOU!!!

If I wasn't going back to college in a couple weeks and actually lived closer to Cedar Rapids, I'd like to try my hand at this competition. Nevertheless, I'll just have to be content with my 2-hour Christian rock show on my school's college station, WSAJ-FM in Grove City, PA, which I'm also blessed and thankful to have an opportunity to do.

Best wishes to all the contestants that submit their stuff there; hopefully it can be a great job and experience for you!
