The sports scenario for 1200 and/or 1430...

Interesting possibility: Clear Channel could dump Rumba from the stronger (when the signal improves)
of their two AMs in town, WKOX 1200, and make it Sports 1200 with a blend of Fox Sports (syndicated
by CC-allied Premiere, and would be pulled off WEEI overnights) and Sporting News Radio (once
1510 dumps it). Similar to WGAM Nashua NH and WKBR Manchester NH.

They could even have a pm drive local sports show (just as 900 & 1250 do)...
North Shore Spirit Baseball (which is currently on 1510)
They can't get the Red Sox...or can they? Perhaps the Spanish language broadcasts (currently on 950)

Sports said to be a big sell...may not have worked with 1510's anemic signal but maybe on 1200?
Fox Sports would get a full time affiliate (or mostly FSR with some SNR thrown in) as opposed to
just overnights.

1430 could do: more Spanish (though 1510 will be grabbing some of that audience)...?
Syndie talk (Premiere talkers like Beck or Dr. Laura? Even prog. talk?) or maybe soul...?

Interesting. So the almighty white male audience of Boston gets its undies in a twist because a zero rated sports station dissappears. So now the Latin station has to make way so another non rated sports station can broadcast. Newsflash: no one listened to the Zone. Plus, you already have two full time sports stations in boston+ sports on WBCS, WRKO and WBZ. The format is overrepresented.

On Sports: the only reason running Fox Sports anywhere would be, well, because they own it. Running SNR would be an option but CC would never consider it.

With 1430's lousy night signal I can't see them competing with 1510, unless if they have superior content. As to Beck and Dr. Laura - please! They're about as needed as yet another sports station.

Now, a new soul station; that could be a real addition! Not holding my breath, though!

R&B, Jazz, Gospel, Reggae, Carribbean ( a legal one!) these are all formats Boston needs more than another zero rated sports station.

A GREAT format for 1430 (or 1090) would be Black Gold weekdays, Caribbean on Saturdays and Gospel on Sundays.

So many stations are up for grabs with possible format changes here in Boston.... Will be VERY interesting to see what the dial looks like at end of 2007.

One thing (amongst others) for sure... 740 remains the same; so says the horse's mouth..

As far as CC NOT putting Sporting News Radio on: I believe that's what their Akron AM runs (used to
be "Radio Free Ohio", prog talk) but that could be because both ESPN and Fox Sports are taken in town.

I haven't heard enough SNR to judge but the caller-driven shows like JT The Brick and Jorge Sedano
on FSR are OK at times...but hey, if SNR is better...

>>Black Gold

Texas Tea? Couldn't resist!

Depending on where you are, night recep of 1430 and 1510 could be OK or practically non-existant.

The suggestions of "Beck and Dr. Laura" and "Fox Sports" also may have to do with the fact that,
as I said, CC-associated Premiere syndicates them. Do we need another sports station? Prob not,
though keep in mind sports is going off 1510 so it would basically be break-even.

In other words, keep the formats that minorities enjoy on the crappy signals.
