THE STATE OF 92 PRO-FM

The state of legendary 92 PRO-FM does seem to be currently in a sad state. Another thing I have noticed is that this station is no longer airing American Top 40 anymore. It moved over to Coast 93-3. With the current lackluster comments being mentioned over the Cumulus Top 40 stations worst heard here on this board do you think 92 PRO-FM will continue their Top 40 ways or do you think today that there could be another station in Providence that could flip their format and really go after PRO-FM? I was the one that created the post of Best Heritage CHR Stations Around (which is currently over at Page Two of the CHR/Mainstream Pop Discussion Board) and no one ever mentioned about 92 PRO-FM so that is why I have considered 92 PRO-FM to be in a sad state right now. Feel free to discuss about this once great legendary Top 40 station here. Have a good Summer 2013 everybody!

I hope the changes at Cumulus will get PRO-FM back to a more cutting-edge CHR format

It's still #2 in the market, with huge ratings, but it's been dropping steadily since Jan took over the programming - Jan may understand Atlanta radio, but he definitely doesn't understand New England radio, or the fact that there's a cultural difference - or he might be aware of it, but made a decision that centralized programming would still save Cumulus more money overall - but there's gotta be a point where WPRO dropping below a certain point would end up costing Cumulus money than it would save

Its not just WPRO-FM. Sister station WWKX is also doing poorly in Providence, and Jefferies was also pulling the strings there. I wouldn't be surprised if Cumulus start cleaning house in the Providence cluster as both stations have to refoucus on how they became successful in the first place without Jan's interference.

The PD of PRO FM and Hot 106 is also a corporate PD in the Cumulus system. He's not going anywhere.

I don't think he's the problem though - Jan Jeffries is the reason the adds are restricted, and when Jan does allow an add, the Pro-FM PD tends to put the song straight into medium rotation

I have to agree there. The PDs can only do what they are allowed to do. I've been in that position before. You are forced to follow instruction from those over you even though you know its wrong and when it doesn't work you're the first one to catch all the flack for it. At least Pro-FMs PD will jump on a song as soon as he is allowed to play it. Maybe the recent change at Cumulus is the first step in them realizing there is a problem in some markets and things may begin to improve some soon.
