The Stern Hypocrisy Begins

While I have no problem with Howard going to Sirius, I do have a problem with this latest move bring Bubba the Love Sponge to his channel. For years, he's bashed guys like Bubba, Mancow, etc. for having no talent and for ripping him off. Now, he's hiring them. Are we supposed to forget the funerals where he celebrated running guys like this out of business, or the ranting and raving he did over and over about these guys? What about his celebration of Bubba being fired?

It just seems big time hypocritical that Howard will now have these guys on his channel after slamming them for years. What's next, the Greaseman? Seems a little desperate to grab anything to fill the channel.

Just an opinion.

I highly doubt that Stern is just "grabbing anything to fill a channel"...

keep your friends close...and your enemies closer...right???

fact is, Bubba DID beat stern in some markets, so why not have him and his winning market listeners come to sirius?...

thats why Stern is who he is...because he is always thinking of ways to better his product...he sure did suprise alot of people with this move...

"We have some fences to mend."

- Howard Stern on his move to Sirius earlier this year

I think howie is at a point in his career where he is starting to look back and realize some of his actions weren't the best when it came to both his onair and personal behaviors. Bringing in Bubba and others like him is a way of mending professional fences and broadining the product he'll be presenting on Sirius

WHAT MARKETS WERE THESE? Bubba's syndication was limited to the Florida panhandle, Tampa, Ft Myers, so where did he beat him? Tampa MAYBE........ I would buy that but a few markets? not a chance. I also didnt buy Stern's "we're in a fight against the fcc and the repressive religious right" thing. Bubba is a hack, always has been, always will be, OF all the talents Stern could have hired for the channel this move doesnt give me a lot of faith in "****** 100"

Sorry, Im a longtime Stern fan but Im also not blinded by my devotion to him. Bad move from Howie.

Thats a load.

He's simply trying to build something and he's pragmatic enough to set past animosities aside.

Re: oh please

Pragmatic my ass. Howard Stern doesn't do anything out of a sense of pragmatism. He's trying to prevent anyone who could actually step into his shoes come January, from actually stepping into them. He's eliminating the competition by buying them off. Howie will have a very difficult time of making this satellite show fly. I think this is the beginning of the end for Howard Stern. His time has come, and is now going.

Very interesting opinion. The most believable of those I've read on RI so far.

Re: oh please

Thank you. I have one a year , and that was it!

I think it all boils down to the fact that "it's just a show". Do a lot of you Howard fans really believe he means and believes everything he does on the air. Please; come on! It's just a show and an act. He, like most hosts will put on an act and say whatever if they think it is going to translate into ratings. I think all of the past "wars" with other hosts, etc. were nothing more than "a show" that was meant to be entertaining and draw in listeners. I highly doubt that at the end of the day he really gives a crap personally as long as it makes a good show. (Kind of like the old wrestling thing when the wrestlers would bad mouth each other and go at it, and then at the end of the day would go out drinking together after "the show" was over).
I just think it's kind of comical that some people get so into the persona and things on the show. I'm sorry, but it's all just "theatre of the mind" and probably 90 percent of the things that are said and the feuds, and so on are simply for entertainment and ratings.
So to that point. Howard is simply hiring entertaining people. Bubba is funny and puts on a good show and Howard knows that. His "feud" in the past was probably just a bunch of hot air for ratings anyway. They've probably been friends off air for years.

He's keeping his enemies closer now because he'll be able to keep them under his thumb and micromanage them. Do you think Bubba will actually be able to make fun of Stern or joke about him now?

Only way I see him bettering his product is hiring hacks or mediocre talent so that they'll make him look better. I want to see Stern actually have fun with his medium once again. He's in an uncensored environment with less commercials now.

Buy a dictionary

before you spout off.

It would be very PRACTICAL to reduce competition would it not?

Not to mention your theory is stupid anyway; Bubba aint exactly been in big demand as far as I see. If someone had wanted to tie him up they quite easily would have.
