My understanding is that Steve Harvey left radio, because he was tired and wanted to focus on other aspects of his career. However, if that is the case, why has he been at WBLS/New York doing mornings all week and is possibly in line to take over full time?

Did something happen between Radio One and Steve?
______________

I wouldnt doubt it...Radio One (not the "real" radio one, that belongs to the BBC) has screwed alot of their talent and staff. From what ive been told from a close source, they have a "urban ghetto" mentality when it comes to running business and its customary to blame "outside parties" of different ethnicities, esp. when their things dont go their way(ratings,sales,ect..) Also, their hiring practices, esp. with anglos and hispanices, have come into question in the past few years.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed it. It's pretty bad when I wished that Clear Channel still owned Majic 102 and 97.9 The Box here in Houston. They fired the number one morning drive show here in Houston (Funky Larry Jones & Company) at Majic 102, so they could put Tom Joyner when they took over and they fired the overnight jock as well (I realize a lot of companies have done that), but they could have done something else with him, given he was very popular. I'm just surprised that no one has stepped forward to question this?!

Sno, the reason is noone wants to step up to the bat and call em what they are, bigots. Friend of mine worked at R1-Dallas for a short time. He (hispanic, with a bachelor degree in RTVF)was treated like a second class citizen. He was chastized for thinking outside the box, as well as taking insults and racial epiteths thrown his way(usually behind his back). He eventually left and moved onto a better paying position with an urban station in CA. In fact I think the EEOC has looked into R1 for both their hiring practices and employee relations with minorites (hispanics/whites/asians/ect..).

I am glad this subject has surfaced. I have heard of discrimination in that company as well. In this sensitive day and age if you are anglo and charge discrimination, you are not taken seriously, because other ethnic groups do not discriminate. I had a colleague work for them in another market and he has confiremd what has been expressed here. "He" is not anglo by the way.

Well, lets look where they're pulling most of their staff from. When it comes to hiring practices, R1 most of the time scrapes the bottom of the barrel. Usually these are the same people who use "Help A Brother Out" or "Whiteys Keeping Me Down" as an excuse for their own personal or group idiocracy and stupidity. Im a huge supporter of anyone,no matter the stripes, for starting and running a diverse company. But, when you exclude anyone on the basis of race, creed, religion, sexual preference or handicap, you lose respect from me. R1 lost it a long time ago and frankly will never get it back.
Edited by Slambang on 06/20/05 02:53 PM.
