The Strange Dreams of Akbar 'n Jeff

We woke up in a tither after dreaming that KT'R was pulling off one of the greatest hoaxes in Phoenix radio since KSLX was taken hostage by the natives! Canning Liebo and putting on the boring Tony Snow makes as much sense as giving Ted Simonds another talk show before he guffaws with Heidi in PMD. Then the tassles on our fez stood straight up when we realized KT'R has hired Liddy & Hill for PMD. Oh sure, Nurse Jeff and I read the story about their local start up on KKNT and a two week delay in national syndication. But check the KKNT960 web site...they're promoting a Night With Hugh Hewitt. That's about as exciting as a Morning with Bruce Williams. While we run the risk of being flamed out of our Buckeye Media Hut, this move makes a lot of sense for KT'R: #1) now there's a reason for anyone under the age of 85 to listen, #2) they can grab a large portion of El Rushbo's audience as Joe Crummey can't hold listners as well, #3) Clear Channel's promotional budget for KFYI is chump change compared to the men in secret underwear, and #4) L&H is the cornerstone for rebuilding KT'R. Last time we had a dream like this was when we thought the part-timers who sat in for Barry Young & Charles Goyette at KFYI were more entertaning and relevant. The Chick Boss agreed with us and made Liddy & Hill fulltime. But if we're wrong, blame it on those red peppers we bought out on Lower Buckeye Road last night!

Doc, we love ya...

Whoever opined that KTAR may be buying time until they can go all news 5a-7p may be on to something. It makes no sense to have Ted Simons on for 5 and a half hours every day. It also makes no sense to put Simons on against Hannity. For three hours, he comments on the news, then for 2 and a half hours, he reports it.

And frankly, it makes no sense for KTAR to try to out-conservative KFYI. Give KTAR credit, though. For a long time, they refused to recognize the problem. At least now, they've admitted a problem exists.
