The TBN Mysteries

These two TBN translators were caught at K1MOD's shack in Macomb, IL in the 80s and 90s. They are on Ch. 61 and Ch. 68. They were on for a short time, then vanished. Never in the FCC database. What could these be, and if they are translators, try to find the callsigns for these! Ch. 61 was also seen in KY for a short time.

I seem to recall from that era that TBN was popping up all over the dial in odd places, judging from my travel experiences and talking with DXers. I have a strong feeling there were a lot of unlicensed little translators around that came and went, probably not owned/operated by TBN itself, but by church groups hacking together a cheap LP transmitter to their TVRO satellite dish, feeling that they didn't need FCC approval because they were following "God's laws" to convert the masses, and not man's laws. ::)

Sorry to inform you that your web links are broken. Try to verify that links are working properly before you post any, since things change instantaneously and without warning in cyberspace. Just a friendly reminder to you and others.

Oops, but looks like that links the only two that I put but they had to be spaced out because that was the link itself. If I don't space them out, then it's 404 errors everywhere. Just a friendly reminder to type in the spaced link, do not click on it, OK?
