I'm familiar with the terms "First Generation" and "Second Generation Oldies."
The first generation usually covers songs from about 1955 to 1964. The second generation covers approximately 1964 to 1972.
As of yet I haven't heard anyone refer to "Third Generation Oldies." Is this what we could classify CBS-FM as since they are introducing some 80's songs? Or is there never going to be such a term since people are referring to much of the music they are playing as "Classic Hits?"
To avoid confusion between CBS-FM (and stations of that ilk) and "Classic Rock" radio stations, I would suggest that a format similar to CBS-FM's be labeled as "Third Generation," covering the years 1972 - 1982 or 1984.
