THE TICKET STUB
Didn't Hale acquire the Ticket from Clear Channel on a 10-31 exchange for 92.5 in Biloxi? I think the engineering for the transmitter move to FWB was done by Clear Channel before the trade. Unless Hale owes money on the new tower (and I doubt he does, I believe he shares the antenna/tower with a couple Cumulus channels) I assume that would mean 98.1 is paid for and Hale has no incentive to sell it at today's low prices. Since Tibbs doesn't have enough cash to write a "blank check" for 98.1, I would just give up on WTKE and wait for a surprise format change in about 5 years when Whitaker buys the tax note on the courthouse steps.
Of course Whitaker could just have everything torn down and sell off the copper and scrap metal. That would probably be the smartest thing to do because Hale or his heirs would have 5 to 7 years to purchase the tax note back... but they probably wouldn't bother if the facilities had been scrapped.
Also keep in mind the vague references to the Hale-Cumulus-Qantum lawsuit. The last thing I remember reading about that lawsuit was that neither Cumulus nor Qantum had enough cash or credit to purchase the station so all deals were off, leaving the future of the station totally up to Hale.
Don't get me wrong, I believe the FM dial has space for a 100kw FM sports station. I just don't like the Ticket because they carry Gator football. We need some FMs to pick back up the Auburn and Alabama football networks here. Why did WOWW 107 drop Auburn football anyway?
Please correct any mistakes, I quit following this station about 2 years ago.
