Ratings are upon us...I know predictions have been made...what about all of the other "predictions" some of you have made...

People getting canned in the new year??
in a few weeks or so the results will be in??
What do you think??

“If I had a formula for bypassing trouble, I would not pass it round. Trouble creates a capacity to handle it. I don’t embrace trouble; that’s as bad as treating it as an enemy. But I do say meet it as a friend, for you’ll see a lot of it and had better be on speaking terms with it.”

The only major change this time around was the format flip from The Bull to V99.3

IMO It's hard to believe they could actually do worse with that frequency than they did with The Bull, bit I think they have done it.

There is one big factor to consider...how will the minority weighting affect V99.3? If Reynold's gamble pays off, he could have the #1 and #2 stations in the market.

Another question...where will their audience come from? Other East Texas stations, or from it's big brother the Blaze? His gamble could back-fire and take away just enough audience from the Blaze to knock it out of it's seat at #1.

That really the only story I'm interested in reading about in the latest "book"

TO be honest..the Bull really wasnt that bad..ratings wise..it flopped..but when I first started working there the staff wasnt really bad..by the time Rusty brought in Dale Knippers..the staff was pretty solid..the worst mistake Rusty could have done was bring in Bob Gambil..talk about ruining what could have been a contender in Longview..He fired Dale..BIG mistake..he fired me..Im sure I deserved it:)..but after he canned..well he didnt can Dale..he was a bitch about it..He made Mary Ramose do it..he fled the building fast..I'll never forget it.."hi Bob, how are you..gotta go,..but its only 2pm Bob?? See ya" next thing ya know..the #1 jock on the station was gone..Bob and the receptionist Sherrie took over mornings..Awfull..the only thing holding the station together was Ryan Foxx(now on the Wolf/Dallas) big hell yeas for you my friend..Don Jones was another contributing factor to the mild success of the Bull..The flip was stupid..if they really tried..voice guy change/better jingles..and so on...anyway, I guess we may see another flip in Longview soon??
Only time will tell-

Rusty made a bunch of mistakes.
It could have been a great station.

I don't think the problem was the programming per se. If the market wasn't already saturated with country stations, then MAYBE "The Bull" would have had a better chance of survival. (Then again, I wasn't a regular listener so make of that what you will.) On the other hand, the programming is exactly the problem with the current occupant of the 99.3 frequency. It sounds like a format that was put together by a bunch of sales geeks who have absolutely no idea what a real Adult Urban station is supposed to sound like. First of all, their positioner, "#1 For Today's Hits"? Way too ambiguous. If you're gonna go head to head with KISX, then yeah, it would've worked. Not to mention an all-over-the-road music mix. If somebody's tuning in expecting to hear Luther Vandross or Anita Baker and instead they hear Kelly Clarkson back-to-back with John Mayer, all that's gonna do is confuse the hell out of them. Whoever greenlit this format needs to head back to the lab, lose the real poppy titles, and greatly increase the amount of old-school titles form Marvin Gaye, the Isley Brothers, Al Green, Rick James, Aretha Franklin, etc. Or better yet, lock 'em in a room and make 'em listen to stations that are doing it right, like KVMA and KDKS/Shreveport, or Majic 102/Houston.
I dunno, but I'm still holding out hope that somebody over there finds the brains, bucks, and most importantly, BALLS to put a real Urban AC or contemporary rocker on in E.T.
