The Timm Family in Tallahassee

What ever happened to Bruce and Jann Timm, who used to own Gulf 104 and WANM in Tallahassee?

I don't know what ever happened to the Timm family although I do remember at one time they owned many stations in Florida and South Georgia including WOZN-AM 970 Jacksonville and WDMG-AM 860 and WDMG-FM 99.5 Douglas, Georgia. I think the Timm family owned WGLF-FM Tally the longest before selling to Cumulus. The Timm's were much like Marshall Rowland in that they owned several stations over the course of many years.

Believe it or not in the late 50s Brody Timm owned WDMG in Douglas Ga.,and a young Marshall Rowland owned a startup competitor WSIZ in Douglas. Timm didn't want any competition. He paid Rowland to turn the license in, and take the station dark. Bruce still has some vertical real estate in Tallahassee.WTAL was or still is leasing the old WANM tower/tower shack.

Brody was the real broadcaster in the family and, yes, we did know each other.

WANM was for many years the #1 station in Tallahassee. After urban-formatted FMs began coming in, the station lost ground, running a feed of CNN News for a short time.

1070 is now Christian-formatted WFRF, owned by Scott Beigle of Faith Radio of Florida (along with the old Monticello 105.7.) WFRF has a nice facility out North Monroe Street with a new tower and renovated studios in a former home. Bruce kind of forced WFRF into the move, saying he wanted to build apartments at the old tower site. Beigle bought his own tower site after almost two years of searching and dealing with the zoning.
(Beigle bought 1070-AM in 1997.)

WGLF is losing ground under Cumulus. It used to consistently be in the top tier of stations but has dropped to about 8th.

I think WTAL is still leasing the tower, and operating from studios on East Tennessee St.

Yes,that's where WTAL was reincarnated at. I spoke the first words on that reincarnation. The gentleman who bought it, just got it to sell it. It's kind of tough to manage a station when it's listed for sale at buysellradio.com two days after going back on the air.

Did you work with Tom Llewellyn?

I was over at WCVC-1330 then. Wayne Green came over to work for us in 2001. As did
Adam Pitt..Marshall Baldwin..and a few others.

WCVC's 10 month stint as a talk station nearly ended in bankruptcy. I spent from 2002-2004
trying to salvage what little was left. Had to let almost everyone go when Erwin O'Conner and I
had to go back in and clean house - no one knew how to sell and the station couldn't meet the payroll
on a regular basis. Finally left there for good near the end of 2004 since it was a no-win situation.

WTAL is running Rejoice Gospel Soulfood for the most part. Rev. R.B. Holmes is the owner.

Back to the OT: Brody Timm, Frank Hazelton, Hurley Rudd and Wally Hoy were all station owners back in those days.

No, Tom sold the license and equipment. I was at WTAL, just to help it basically get back on the air. It was news/talk during the day, and adult standards night/weekends. Actually the adult standards portion seemed to have a bigger following. I can feel your pain with news/ talk. It's expensive, to do it right.
