The Todd & Don Show - OMG LOL!

The next generation in talk radio talent? Seriously? That's like calling Paris Hilton the next Einstein.

And what's with this "OMG LOL" crap? What are you, fourteen years old?

Nothing to hear here. Just another boring twist on the stale FM talk programming cliche of two regular guys trying to be witty and topical. Todd & Don. Don & Joe. Joe & Bob. Bob & Mike. Mike & Al. Whatever. Another set of interchangable names. Nothing that people can't hear from any other unremarkable pair in any other medium market around the country.

You couldn't carry Boortz' jock strap.

If it weren't for Daddy being a Texas radio legend, one of you wouldn't even have a job.

As for the other, it really smacks of desperation for a radio host to post self-serving fake testimonials on an industry message board just to kick up some artificial buzz for his lame show.

Right, "Mookie?"

Given Boortz' track record in this market, no one would be caught dead carrying his....I don't even want the image in my mind.

You'll see Boortz and the others slowly start eating away at WOAI's and other stations tsl. Also , Boortz was hidden away at night on KTSA before, that's why he did not have a good "track record " here. I may not agree with his ideology but he will affect other talk formats in this market.

Santini, you are correct.

By "this" market, I meant Austin. I don' t know how he's done in SA, but he had to be given a sweet spot in the middle of the afternoon here before anyone knew who he was.

Santini, you're probably just all pi$$ed off because Todd whapped the dump switch on you when you tried to drop the f-bomb on them or something. If you don't think it's good radio, try tuning in to ANY Clear Channel station on ANY given day. Well-done local radio will always score over the piped-in soilent green most stations are saddled with.

So AirUpThere is Todd, and Mookie is Don? That, or some other klbj promo employee.. Seriously, worst local show in Austin, worst show on 590. Jeff Ward is the only decent show on lbj-am. Santino is exactly right.

How was your (590's) last trend? 12+ Dropped 2 spots? I can't reveal your 25-54 numbers, but ouch!

I don't work for KLBJ, either one, but I do listen regularly. It must really suck being wrong so much.
So you work for Emmis? Or you're related to one of them? Either way, I haven't been wrong about anything else.

Uh, you registered just to flame the thread starter Neil.....

I'm still convinced that despite what any poster(s) on an Internet message board think(s), this is the prototype show for the post-CC, post-Cumulus world. All you need to do is find a couple of local celebs or would-be celebs who'll work relatively cheap that know the local issues and give them a couple of hours of air time. It's quick and dirty radio, taylor-made for bankrupt companies that are looking to create some local buzz and drive ad sales.

I'm not saying it's especially good, but it can be profitable. And as the big chains turn turtle, anything that can make a quick buck in radio will work.

Maybe there's even a certain justice in imagining that one day, the bones of what was Clear Channel will be scouring the local celebs in SA, looking for someone, anyone to drive ad sales on WOAI, or the rest of the properties that are on the brink.

Naw, it'll never happen. Those vultures will come up smelling like roses even at Armageddon.

Yea, this is what scares me about the post-CC world. Lots of locals (good) saying anything they can get away with (bad). One thing about a large company...the talent usually has the resources it needs to prepare for a decent show and knows where the line is. These locals are just flailing about about in the vast radio pond. A lot of the good talent was driven out long ago, and the new hires are, well, Todd and Dons.

If Cactus still has the ability, he needs to turn Don over his knee. This is pure crap, and embarrassing at that.

It sounds to me like you've never listened to Todd and Don. The show is fresh, smart, and funny - quite the opposite of Old Boring Bortz. I almost always agree with Todd's view points on issues as they seem most in line with what most reasonable, educated, Austinites think. As for Don - I'm on the fence because he usually is and that's irritating. Just did a bit of research and it looks like the Bortz hour was below 8th in the ratings prior to the Todd and Don show, where the Todd and Don show are up in the top three. Sounds like Bortz should tighten his own strap and become more interesting.

Sounds to me like you're a little bitter about something; let go? laid off? downsized?. You should call into their show when they come back.
