It won't help, there are too many stations playing the same music here. The ones with the best brand image and execution win. PLJ got squeezed out and they're not going to make a comeback any time soon.
Better off to find a format hole and own it. I can think of a couple - Alternative would be nice but Classic Hip Hop probably makes the most sense.
yep, exactly.
Why bother listening to PLJ when you have six other stations with more of a footnote doing the same thing? and they already have the tainted image of corporate nonsense going through them with what they did to scott, so that will further drive people away as long as you keep todd there.
I'd like to think that the only reason they stayed #12 for as long as they did WAS because of a great, Zany morning show that engaged it's audience.... made them feel like a part of the family, and traveled alot, doing tons of remotes to get people interested and invested. As the show grew older, and they got shifted to one broke company after another, and tons of budgets cut, that kind of went the wayside... but the audience was already entrenched and invested, if not always targeted with activities...then the changes started, things got meaner, and people lost interest...
if they want to gain some of that audience back, they need to totally revamp the morning show with all new people and then once they find something that clicks, go 1991 all over again. then maybe they can start building things up with word of mouth. but I don't think these investment companies that turned radio into what it is think like that. they think if you put ANYONE in there, it'll be OK and you'll be able to maintain the status quo. Well, the Todd Show proved that wrong.
you know, it's funny. back in the day, all the classmates in school listened to Z100...and anytime I turned on PLJ at the school gym, it never lasted long and always wound up back on Z100. Wonder if they knew that the reason Z100 was so popular, was because the guy who made it that way was then at PLJ...
