The Tonight Show History in Cleveland

For years we've made reference on the board to some (or all) Westinghouse TV stations  refusing to clear The Tonight Show at varied times, especially the late 1950's-mid 1960's.  One of these stations was KYW-TV 3 in Cleveland..

Doing some research over the last couple days, I've come up with a complete history of "Tonight" In the Cleveland area on the Cleveland Classic Media Blog linked below:

I thought since we've talked about it a lot, this might be an interesting read..

Nice job, Tim! In Toledo, which didn't have a full-time NBC affiliate throughout most of the sixties, The Tonight Show had been seen at different times, on 11, 13 and 24.

Very interesting! Even mentions the trivia question about Al "Jazzbo" Colllins, a one-time Pittsburgh radio fixture.

Good work, Tim. You really have the information on Cleveland TV history.

In Cincinnati, WLW-T, Channel 5, the local NBC-TV affiliate, didn't carry the Jack Paar Tonight Show when it began in 1957. When that show began to gain attention, WCPO-TV, Channel 9, an ABC-TV Network affiliate, started carrying it. Interestingly, for the 11:15 P.M. opening of the show, a girl who appeared on WCPO-TV live shows during the week, came on camera and announced who the guests on that night's show were going to be. She would then say, "Here's Jack Paar..." and the station would cut to the NBC-TV feed as he walked onto the stage.

Not to mention New York (WNEW) and San Francisco(two versions of KSFO, as well as KGO and several others)
