The Track going Hot AC?

I know the track gets discussed a lot on this board but I just have to point this out.
I just went to yes.com and looked at the "Top Songs" for WNTR. The top 10 songs are all new songs that I could hear on WZPL. Also I checked the Top Songs for WZPL and almost all of them were exactly the same as the top songs for the track. So... what exactly is the point of having the track play most of the same stuff as ZPL? Are they going Hot AC and if so what is the point unless they are planning on changing ZPL's format...

Unless you actually listened to the track and heard these songs, I'd guess there was a book-keeping error somewhere.

Blowing up ZPL would not be where I'd start to fix Entercom Indy.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the Track does play some currents and recurrents mixed in with their other stuff and even though they don't play em more than a couple times an hour, they're still more heavily rotated than the bulk of their material and therefore you find them at the top of that list.

That's exactly what it is.

They're not going Hot AC or CHR. If anything, they'll go older rather than younger. If they ever figure out what the heck they're doing over there.

Rock? It's coming...somewhere

What kind of Rock? Don't we have enough of those stations now?

WFBQ
WRZX
WJJK
WTTS

the pie sliced 4 ways with rock, then there's country duplication, the top 40's, news talkers ac's and so on. and....NO one now doing Classic Hits...hummmmmmmmm somebody could get the whole pie. yummm.

Let's see. WKLU was making around a 4 with Classic Hits. What could someone do with 50,000 watts?
Do you think they are smart enough to see it?

if someone is not thinking about it now, they're brain dead.

Oldies is #4 in Chicago...WKLU had a 4 share with their good, but still Class A signal...I'm with Timewarp...What could someone do with 50K?

IF, someone does it YES, a 50K signal would be a fantastic benefit! but if they do and run "Real Oldies" off the bird and fill in a few dayparts with the same old radio "Hacks" that have been bouncing around the market for years, the shine will come off of it pretty fast. and i might add, if there is a commitment to stay with it more than 2 years, and a sales staff that "Gets it" when it comes to selling that demo somebody can have a top 3 or 4 radio station, maybe better. after all these years, it is TIME to do this format RIGHT in Indianapolis. and, i'm willing to help! :)

And for anyone who doubts the validity of that statement, just look back to 95.9's 2 share when they had live/local jocks & their rapid plunge to the sub 1.0 range when they blew out the Gold Good guys & hooked up the Oldies Radio bird. And I do understand the economics of having a great live air staff on a 3KW signal in the 'burbs...a 2 share just couldn't pay for it. But what's not gonna fly at 3KW can soar at 50K. Hopefully someone at the Track will decide it's time to soar...

When you say "top 3 or 4 radio station", do mean in ratings or billing. There is a difference.

i guess i mean ratings, since they don't publish the billing statements of radio stations, that is kept a secret from the public, and i doubt if you know anything other than maybe the station you're at(IF they let the staff know). i mean IF the staff knew how good a station was doing they might want a RAISE!! for heaven's sake!
BUT, in terms of say, "The Track" i imagine it would be a vast improvement in terms of billing, and ya, the ratings too.

Every station & company is well aware of that an oldies type format would draw a big audience. It wouldn't even require a lot of promotion to make it happen. Right or wrong, nobody wants that audience though.

what's wrong with cbs-fm and wls and hundreds of other stations in this format? IDIOTS!

Agencies don't really want that older demo that Oldies attracts. That's why I asked if you meant ratings or billing. Sure, they could have great ratings, but if no one is buying, then what do you have?

Don't you think there was a reason that Susquehanna flipped Gold?

I always thought one of the reasons why Susquehanna flipped Gold to Jack was because they were forced to use their agreement they had with sparklenet. which was orginally ment to replace retro 93.9 but word got out and they changed mind And flipped to the song. and when WENS was about to switch formats they inquired bout the jack branding that Susquehanna had. and Sparklenet said you must use your rights to the Jack branding somewhere in indy or we yank it for Emmis and WENS. thus the reason why WENS flipped to Hank FM and Country was how i was always figured it out.

i've grown tired of this older demo argument(its become some kind of "urban legend" it has been repeated so much) its gone around and around here a million times. i program a station like this and i can tell you agencies ARE buying my station! just answer my question...what's wrong with cbs-fm and wls-fm and the hundreds of others stations doing this format? it is in the top 4 of all formats nationwide! are they all nuts?
i will tell you something, if you think the economy sucks now, what IF everyone over 50 stopped buying goods and services in this country, what would you have?.... fact is, they are the people who have the most money to spend, its a fact.
as for Susquehanna it wasn't because the format was failing, they were cutting costs like everyone else and 'Jack' was the cheapest way to go, i think it was a stupid decision, and right now i bet they wish they had it back.

I agree with this in ways...
They have young people in there, and they don't want to hear it. I wish someone could talk WTTS in to trying it. They might be more than happy with ratings around a 5 share. That company should bought WKLU, it would gave them 2 Indpls, signals, a while back I heard WTTS has a sales office around Broad Ripple. Which they could had there sales office at the WKLU studio and sales office.

People said they would not want to chance there luck, old saying I always heard, you gotta spend money to make money...
