The Transmitter Died Again

My broadcast Computer is now online again, with a new hard drive. The unique mix has returned. Hope to have no new issues for a long time to come. Thanks to all for your continued advice, support, love and understanding.

The entire radio station is off the air again. Going to make Nicom fix this piece of junk transmitter once and for all or I'm going to get someone else to fix it for me. Mr. Chris Johnson may be one to accomplish this. Nicom is a sorry excuse of a company and no longer will I ever do any new business with them. Yes @Kelly A , I did get what I paid for but have learned my lesson too.

Dan <><

P.S. I so much detest and loathe Nicom. Their Transmitter is a joke indeed. :ROFLMAO:

And...If anyone reading can still help me get a spare LPFM type certified transmitter, that'll work and not break down all the time, let me know. It doesn't have to a fancy one. Just an old workhorse styled model, if all possible.

Dan, turn over some sofa cushions, find enough loose change and go buy yourself a Crown. You'll never have to worry about staying on the air again. It even has a really good audio processing built-in:

Thank you for the link. Checking with them now and see what they have to offer. I might just do business with them and call it a day. (y)

Look forward to hearing from Crown and see what they can do. I believe we might soon be making beautiful music together. ;)

Crown is built like a brick shit house tank and you could load that transmitter into a wet spaghetti noodle for an antenna and it would radiate something.

@SomeRadioGuy what you would recommend I do. This breakdown is ongoing. Been through it three times, since getting the Nicom, about a year ago and I'm very pissed off. When Mr. Chris Johnson returns from his Missions trip, going to get something done for good. If you or anyone else can help me get a dependable LPFM type certified transmitter, that'll be a workhorse and not fail on me, that would be awesome. Stay safe sir and keep on going.

P.S. I'm so ready to put this issue behind me for good. Just started updating the music, a few days ago and now the transmitter failed on me again. Because of the failure, I'm not going add any other new tunes, till I'm fixed for good. Sorry about that!

@R.D.P. If your station has been taken off the air for longer periods multiple times due to the transmitter failing, and you've only had the Nicom transmitter for a year, you may be able to go after them legally to have them give you a brand new one, or refund your $$ so you can go with a different brand. According to Nicom's site, their equipment comes with a 3 year warranty, unless the work your engineer has done to try and get this thing back on the air has somehow voided it.

Since you seem to have a limited budget, if I were you I'd try and find out if there's a lawyer in your church congregation, your community or who has involvement with your station who might be willing to send an official looking letter to Nicom on behalf of your station and see what they come back with. I've only had that type of situation come up once with equipment. While the manufacturer was good about jumping on the problem right away, after multiple failures taking the gear out of service for a few weeks each time, our attorney sent a strongly worded letter to both the manufacturer of the equipment and the dealership who sold it to us, threatening to invoke the "lemon law". I'm not an attorney nor do I claim to be, but I can tell you that after that letter was sent, amazingly the gear was repaired one last time, and it's now lasted more than a decade in service without further problems. This website may help explain a bit more about the lemon law and your possible options.

To @Mikey Radio, I'll check into that one, once my engineer and I can talk about it. He and I will get something done, sometime this week, when he returns from his missions trip. Mark my word, this issue will be fixed for good, if we can help it. I know that Nicom did tell him, that no refund was possible and all they could do is fix or replace it. Since they may have sold me a lemon, I'm going to do what I can to hold them to account and make them pay for all the bad service I've had to endure with their crappy product.

P.S. To all reading, thanks again for all your help, advice and suggestions. I appreciate it.

Here's another vote for Crown....
We had an FM100 go back to Indiana for refurb, after 16 years of service...
Service from a spare room above a stone quarry!!!
The rig was just CRAMMED with stone dust!!
Crown was curious where this thing had been.....the cooling fan was PACKED, and had stopped working...
Like the Energizer bunny....it just kept going.....and going....and going.....!!!
BTW.....the unit is still in service as the main at the LPFM facility......
They place a lot of trust in this puppy.....they have NO BACKUP!!
Two NICOM rigs I've had (an NT 250 and NT 1000) had issues.....the 250 quit after just 2 days of service, the 1000 came
out of the box with a power supply that wasn't bolted down and had shaken loose from its connection.....
The 250 was sent back and repaired under "warranty" (this was sold as a demo)....the reason given for the failure was "the SWR fold-back protection circuitry was disabled......." (?????????)
I repaired the 1000 myself.....it took several days. In order to get to the loose power supply, I had to practically gut the thing...
but it came back to life.....
So.....count me in as a "NO NICOM" candidate!!:(
Hope you can find a reasonably-priced Crown, Dan......I think you'll be happy with it!!;)

I think, with a Nautel, it's easier to go HD if you are interested. Plus, tech people love Nautel... a lot.

Crown is the perfect choice for LPFM. It's reasonably priced for all you get, I would argue built even more solidly than Nautel, and has built-in audio processing that's not fussy or difficult to set up.

I just touched base with Mr. Chris and we intend to get something done about the transmitter issue, sometime next week. Hope to be back sometime this weekend from one of his loaned ones. Going to shop for a new transmitter and get one that'll work and not fail on me again, every other week. Me and Nicom are through. No longer, will I do any other business with them or use their junk equipment.

The transmitter issue has been resolved. We're going to give the Nicom one more chance, once returned and if it fails again, then I'm going to get a Nautel and ditch the Nicom for good. (Possibly sale it!) Sometime in January, if things work out, intend to begin an upgrading spree. My first goal will be to replace this Apple Computer, I'm typing this note from. (Printer and Seven Year Old Router will be included.) Once completed, then I may replace all the other Computers, inside the studio, if my finances will permit and I don't have to end up buying a new transmitter. My days of broadcasting from and using outdated equipment to bring everyone Jesus Radio is about to end. Hope to begin the long needed upgrades in January. If anyone reading wants to help me get a new Apple Computer, Printer and/or Router for the office/bedroom, let me know.

Dan <><

P.S. My plans are to slowly ditch all the outdated gear and replace it will all new stuff. If anyone thinks I can get a good deal on trading in this Apple 2011 Computer, along with an Epson Printer and 7 year old NetGear Router, let me know.

B.T.W. Need a new one because some of the web sites, I visit, are no longer working on this outdated Apple Computer. Many of these sites help me run the radio station and keep it in business.
