For sure, Jack Jones recorded it in 1965, but it was first released by Jimmy Gray in 1963, then by George Jones in 64.

Other notable artist covers [after 1964] include Jody Miller, Johnny Tillotson, Waylon Jennings, Conway Twitty, Grateful Dead, and Dave Edmunds, and Sawyer Brown. The Sawyer Brown copy is the best cover after George Jones, imho. :)
