The truth about Leykis

Tom Leykis has been blowing smoke up the **** of Seattle fans for years. The truth is that he is not nearly the ratings juggernaut he would have you believe. Leykis only has a handful of affiliates nationally and failed miserably in almost every major market in which his show was broadcasted...most notably New York and Chicago. Outside of Los Angeles & Portland the Leykis show is a bust. In Seattle, Leykis lost the big money afternoon drive time slot because his ratings were not strong enough to keep him there. KISW determined it made better financial sense to replace Leykis with a couple of third rate hacks doing a lame show called...The Mens Room.

Truth is a relative term

I don't recall him ever claiming to be a "juggernaut" anywhere except in Seattle and LA. Both of which would be the case. Last rumor I heard was he was in negotiation to be picked up in NY again, who knows how that would go, but anyway, it's common knowledge the left coast is his stronghold. As for third rate hacks, the only third rate hacks are the ones making Entercom's programming decisions! If I were you I would hold off on any definitive proclamations a bit until we see whether or not Tom finds his way back to live air (via Entercom or otherwise) in the not too distant future. My money says he will. I understand the overwhelming urge to crow from the rooftops but regardless what side of the fence you find yourself on just remember this - Leykis has carved out for himself a more successful career in radio - by light years - than probably anyone who has ever set foot in this place or ever will - including you (and me)

Yeah, number one in your target demo (adult men) for eight books in a row just doesn't cut it anymore. What are you talking about?

A term I like to use is face validity: when looking at something, does it make sense? In terms of success in a major metropolatin market, what has more face validity: The Men's Room or The Tom Leykis Show? After listening to The Men's Room for a month, could you, and certainly the broad audience as a whole, honestly believe that it is a better show than Leykis? I am a fan of Leykis, but certainly am not his biggest fan. I am a 40 year old man. He is trying to reach men in their twenties for the most part. People who wimper and whine at this site are, sad to say, my age generally. At least I think so. Or they are people who really have a need to try to bring a successful person down. Leykis will be back, and similar to what he said he would do in Portland, he will try to run over 100.7 and 99.9 with an 18 wheeler. And when he comes on, the truckers in the area will no longer pay attention to The Wolf. arf arf arf

He has claimed that "there are national shows with MUCH bigger followings than ours". 1.5 million listeners according to Talkers. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that Tom Leykis doesn't play that well in Wichita (where, come to think of it, he's on KFH weekends).

So I don't know what you're talking about. To quote Tom, keep listening to Michael Medved and Michael Savage over at the witness protection program Entercom calls KTTH.

As much as I take an evil joy in him getting screwed over, I have to agree with this.

By every account I've read, leykis does really, really good in Seattle. Him losing his slot to a show called the mens' room is just insane. It makes no sense at all.

Can someone explain what goes on in Entercoms' brain?
