The two most interesting triad radio battles...

Rock 92 vs. The Buzzard, I think Rock 92 wins just because they are local. The Buzzard has a better on air staff BUT John Boy and Billy are awful and kill any chance of knocking off 92.

QMG vs. Kiss: QMG the powerhouse player in the market wins. But, you got to like the talent Kiss has brought in: Steve Harvey and Michael Baisden.

You thoughts?

Rock 92 vs The Buzzard - It's only a battle until CC gets their tower and COL change for The Buzzard. When it becomes an RDU station no one else is going to go after the hard rock audience in the Triad. Rock 92 will own them until the last one dies.

QMG vs Kiss - HA! QMG is cold steel, and when Kiss puts their lips to it they're gonna bleed cash. I see Kiss hanging up the music to become the Sports Cow in about 3 years. MOOOney MOOney MOOney!

Later....

I really don't think The Buzzard's airstaff is better than R92's. The Buzzard just plain sucks! They have ZERO attitude and they play too much old s&*t! Not that R92 is any better, but if the Buzzard was smart, they would go all talk in afternoon drive (the way 92 has done in AM drive) and run Don and Mike or Opie and Anthony. NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR YOUR LAME OLD TUNES ANYMORE BUZZARD! GET A CLUE! THAT'S WHY ROCK 92 DOESN'T PLAY THEIR OLD CRAP ABOUT A THIRD OF THE DAY!

Quite simply put, both of these "battles" are just another Clear Channel mistake. Think about it: in both cases, this is the exact same thing they tried to do with WGBT. They decided to come into the market with formats that were already here on local, well-established stations. On top of that, in these two battles (as opposed to what they did with The Beat), they aren't going 100% local, and they sure as hell aren't promoting the stations as much as they should be if they want to beat their competition.

Clear seems to like losing as of late. WGBT is just the last local example. The Buzzard and Kiss will be the next two.

We'll see about KISS with CC...Will they actually go AFTER QMG??? Or will they just be happy with what crumbs are there for the taking. As for Buzzard vs. KRR....VBZ has finally started with a lil more new music...but Chris & Chris absolutely KILL John Boy & BIlly. That's all KRR has. That's why they run Chris & Chris til noon. After mornings, VBZ wins every daypart....JB&B are tired and old and are mailing it in. Until VBZ does something different in mornings, they'll lose to KRR.

Oh, do tell! I someone going top 40 to challenge KZL...or maybe it's another spanish station on FM...or maybe a kuntree station to challenge TQR...what what?

I would LOVE to see a station go after KZL.
anyone ever noticed their sound quality ? I mean, it's a given that the farther you go away from the tower, the weaker the signal. But, good grief, by the time you make it to Danville, Va or past Burlington, it sounds like the station is in a barrel. what is up with that ? G105 in raleigh? has NOOO problem. weird.

ok, sorry I got off track, but I'm willing to bet it would either be another country, AC/HOT AC, or top 40. just watch. :p

Is it WMAG 99.5? Christmas this year should be interesting to follow. You may want a few airchecks for memories, just in case. ;)

JohnQdoe, you might want to take another look at the Spring book. 'KRR beat
'VBZ P18-34, P25-54 and M25-54 in middays and PMD.

someone PLEASE challenge KZL! if there is a halfway decent top 40 station with enough street presence, at least it'll force KZL to stop sounding like a freakin Hot AC station

I don't think it's so crazy to think that QMG can be toppled. The only reason they are number one is because they are the only Urban AC in a market with a large demographic that fits them.

The Buzzard will whoop KRR as soon as they switch to a local morning show, hell at least someone besides JB&B.

by the way, another sports station?! the ones we have don't do that well, since we don't have a pro team, I don't see that ever working.

Since KISS didn't go Top 40, I'm making a petition to make Hitz 94 go there...SIGN HERE!

well I stand corrected...but look at the gaps. KRR is WAAAAAY ahead in AM Drive...then it steadily narrows thru the day.

WMAG, WMQX and WSJS always share the number two, three, and four billing spots in the market. Don't look for much changes at MAG or MQX.

Meanwhile, anyone heard about the changes at CC Greensboro. I heard late Friday that the GM and GSM are gone and that Dick Harlow (who is MM in Raleigh) will oversee Greensboro. Heard they will have a station manager in Greensboro and that Lisa Fields is new SM. Can anyone confirm?

That's a relief! I do know Lite 94.9 is rumored for a format change down here and has me concerned that AC could be the next to go, after oldies. I don't listen to much commercial radio anymore, but when I do, my scan often stops at WLTM. When I was in the Triad, WMAG and WMQX did very well, but I don't know how they are doing these days?

MAG is still a cash cow....no flip on 99.5. I heard about a couple of exits from PAI Park too. I wonder if this is strictly a salary move....

Here is what I heard about the changes at CC in Greensboro. A CC suit swooped in and did away with the DOS and the Market Manager. Dick Harlow is the new Market Manager for both Raleigh and Greensboro. They also created a new position of Station Manager and gave the job to Jan Smith who was the Sales Manager for WMAG. I understand she will hold both jobs now. Also, Lisa Felds who was apparently the Buzzard Sales Manager is now also the WTQR Sales Manager. Sounds like a lot of cost cutting going on. Could this be a new trend for Clear Channel or is Greensboro losing money? I think the Spanish station and the Kiss station have their own sales managers but I don't know who they are.

I think there may have been too many chiefs and not enough Indians on the sales side at CC/Greensboro. There are a LOT of people at CC/Charlotte mgmt that have put in time at PAI Park and are verrry familiar with the people and market....This should be an ok move.
