The Tyler Perry Network

Long term, I think it'd be very wise to pay extra attention to that last sentence in the NYT snippet:

They also plan to buy third-party content that meshes with Mr. Perry’s Christianity-tinged brand.

If what you have in mind is a channel where Tyler Perry and friends play dress up for 16-20 hours of its broadcast day, you're underestimating him a bit. He's easily going to be aiming towards the audiences that already have awareness and participation with BET, TVOne, and Centric--not really an audience Oprah's OWN is openly targeting, if we're frank. And seeing how he has done some notable film projects outside of his comedy franchises, it wouldn't be that surprising that this third-party content isn't of the comedy realm either.

Like his work or not, Perry's got the connections to get this off the ground--one such connection being the backing of a successful distribution studio. Neither Robert Johnson nor Cathy Hughes had that.

Seriously? This would be best as a channel that never launches. Hey, at least that would keep the talentless hack off TBS....
