THE ULTIMATE VENT ABOUT PARTY FM

Re: Why so much hate for Party FM?

I've always accepted Hip Hop has been part of the format at Party. I've listened to them since they've signed on the air. Why so many complaints after they took over 87.7? It's because their once cutting edge format, that played new dance AND hip hop tracks first, has lost its luster and sounds more like a typical rhythmic CHR. Party is missing most new dance tracks, instead of breaking them. The station has leaned much farther in the hip hop direction than they ever had, and the repitition is so heavy I cant bear listening anymore.
I really do not understand why Vic Latino has taken away the sound that has made Party a success for all these years. He's also given the station a much more urban hispanic feel to it, with all the Pit Bull, etc. Which baffles me since there's 98.5 for that. ???
Trust me if Andre was running things Party would've been a huge success on 87.7.

Pitbull was one of billboard's chr top leading artist of the year. He has been a staple of chr since 2009. Look,if you lost your job because of Vic,move on because it's obvious your so sour grapes about the dude.

Re: Why so much hate for Party FM?

Pitbull is, indeed,one of the most popular ,currently mainstreamed artists of the moment;
turn on z100 for an hour or two and find out..

Pitbull is more of a pop artist than a hip hop artist these days. Calle Ocho used a current dance record. People have no clue what dance music is or is not anymore

Re: ULTIMATE VENT/took the helm/ MUST ADMIT/M.M. bankuptcy/Why so much hate

I see they took all the Pulse/Party posts and put them in one thread.

I'm actually glad the board ops did that. :)

I did make a note on one of the threads "merged in here" that because of all of the "poster angst" going on with dance posts, that for now we should just post on whatever threads are currently up, until things ease down a bit. This makes complete sense since the postings and new threads were getting out of hand, causing other posters that don't care about the stations to get angry. I started up postings on other stations to help get the ball rolling in that sense.

This is cool :)

I think THIS is the ultimate vent on PartyFM

Yup, thats me. They are sounding better tonight. Then again, whenever Pulido is on it usually sounds pretty good. Take an aircheck of PartyFM now and this is how they should sound all the time!
Sounds like they are playing a new song by Inna now. This is what WE want to hear! And now they got Flanders - Time. Pulido you're doing great, why cant you be on all day? ;)

I agree. I'm not one of the ones who was complaining about them over the past few months as I still really liked the station, but I did feel Party sounded a bit better under Andre. With that being said I have noticed a bit of a tweak the last few days, and Party sounds great. Reminds me of the Andre days. Just wish they would put it back on 101.5. The 87.7 signal is alright here in eastern Nassau, but 101.5 was stronger and I can't get 87.7 on my main living room stereo.

Well you got your wish. For some reason Vic had a more hip hop sound with 87, but now they sound great again. Sucks for NYC but great for LI.

For one, I DID NOT WISH THIS and thanks a lot for that CRAP video John.

Party WAS THISCLOSE to flipping the format based on it.

Hey, but why care about New York City. As you say, Long Island is happy about this, right?? And La Fiesta isn't on 101.5 anymore so I'm sure that may have satisfied your passion regarding the angst on the "day laborers" you were talking about on that one thread in You Tube on Q BOONA.

:mad:

Dont blame me for Party's end of the 87.7 simulcast! :-[
I doubt one video would affect a whole radio station. The real reasons probably had more to do with the FCC and Island Broadcasting. I still felt taking Party off 101.5 was a bad decision because alot of Nassau listeners could not recieve 87.7. This is still a devastating loss to NYC Radio, and the real insult was Island Broadcasting chose to put Christian Music programs on instead. I DID NOT WISH FOR THIS! Let me make that clear. What I wanted was Party to add more of the dance sound they had and put it on 87.7.

I understand how mad you are, but I highly doubt a single video would stop a station.

Agreed. Tony shouldn't be attacking other fans of dance music over this. I wanted Party to succeed, and criticism usually helps focus the music better. I wanted Party to keep The Pulse listeners and add new ones.

Tony is correct;
the haters made it clear that Vic had to do everything they wanted,or there'd be no support..
so in response, Party said **** ***!!!
mission accomplished...

I don't think it had anything to do with the people complaining, especially due to the fact we don't know yet if the venting had any impact ratings wise since they haven't had a full book yet. With that being said I do think the people who complained a ton about it were a bit silly in part for that very reason. They didn't even have a ratings book out yet. What likely brought down Party was the combination of the cost as well as the questions regarding future use of the frequency.

I just put my thoughts up on the NYDMC Facebook page. I think it is public but if you can't read it, then you need to get a Facebook account.

http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=12576&uid=93845172523

I have talked with a couple of radio station general managers yesterday regarding what had happened with Party FM.

They DO read what is posted here as well as other boards. The one thing that continually came back to me was their amazement of so much HATE from people regarding the station. One of them saw your video John. In their mindset being in the position they are in, if they constantly see such a "barrage" of negative on a station, then someone would have to be FIRED and a format change would have to be taken into consideration because bad publicity is hurtful.

Vic co-owns the station so he would never fire himself. But if he didn't, then he probably would have been fired. And in that sense, it is not fair because people, especially in these rough economic times, DO need to make money. Love or hate Party, Vic was trying to do the best for the dance music fans as well as keep his station profitable. And if hip-hop was going to do that, so be it. I was remaining hopeful on things.

I'm sure that JVC took a financial blow on this. That STINKS. I'm not saying that John's video was the sole demise here. But with that added on to the majority of negative comments along the way, don't think that it couldn't have been another reason why Party FM was pulled. This coming from general managers in other markets expressing their thoughts to me.

I have to make things right here and that's going to be the hardest part now. But I'll do it because the music is worth it. But I need everyone's cooperation and support here and to stay on the "same page". We need to be united in that sense.
