The Upfronts - What Do You Want To See Next Fall?

As far as current series, I want to see How I Met Your Mother and Supernatural to continue. But more than any other, I want The CW to renew Veronica Mars. I don't care what incarnation they choose - Veronica still in college or Veronica at the FBI. I mailed my letter (an *actual* letter) of support about a month ago to Dawn Ostroff, president of The CW.

Now to the upfronts...

The series I want to see are The Bionic Woman on NBC, The Sarah Connor Chronicles on FOX, Reaper on The CW, and Twilight (vampire helps detective), Babylon Fields (Amber Tamblyn in a world in which zombies overrun the earth; I hear it's close to getting picked up), and Demons, created by Barbara Hall, creator of Joan Of Arcadia; (it's about an ex-priest who performs exorcisms) on CBS. But the series I'm most looking forward to, and really hope the buzz I hear it's getting translates to a pickup, is ABC's Pushing Daisies, from the creator of Dead Like Me. It's about a baker who discovers he can touch people and briefly bring them back to life. He uses this gift to help the authorities solves crimes.

But there's a catch...

Spoiler Alert!

When he uses the gift on his childhood sweetheart, she stays alive and he then learns something new about his gift: if he ever touches her again, she'll die - and stay dead.

Since Heroes hit big this year (it's also one of my favorite TV series), the networks have developed alot of sci-fi/fantasy/horror pilots. For once I'm glad to see genre material being given a chance on network television when the medium as a whole has never really pursued it as much as they have this season. As a genre fan, I'm excited.

Any word on the Law and Order franchises? Are they being picked up next season or trimmed back to two separate shows with a smaller cast?

Everything I've read says that Dick Wolf and NBC are going back and forth until the last minute re: whether or not Law & Order will be renewed. The spinoffs are safe. If NBC doesn't renew Law & Order, TNT has publicly stated that they'd be more than happy to pick it up.

TNT seem to put on when there is nothing else to show Charmed and Law & Order. I think TNT should have the rights to all Law & Order spineoffs. Then they can rebrand TNT to the 24/7 Law & Order Channel lol.

I think Veronica Mars will get renewed because the female demo improved over last year and with the loss of Gilmore Girls, the CW will need Mars to anchor the Tuesday night lineup with a new show or move the show to another night.

I would not worry too much about How I Met Your Mother because I am sure that CBS will renew the show. It has barely improved in the ratings and it is one of the best shows with their younger demos. Remember, CBS wants to get younger, so renewing Mother would make sense!
