the "VARIETY" moniker

SO has any other station besides 104.7 used the "Variety" moniker in the states at any point? It seems like a good name and I certainly listened...

Anyone know of any other stations named "VARIETY"?

St. Louis had a Variety 96, at one point. I believe that frequency is correct.

The only reason they used Variety was EZ took the Mix name before Nationwide could convert KZZP to Mix 104.7.

It was a thorn in the station's side. Of course, the fact that they were the 5th station in the market to go AC that year didn't help much, either.

So the five AC stations in the market at that time were…

96.9 (Sunny 97)
98.7 (K-Lite)
99.9 (KEZ)
101.5 (Mix 101.5)
104.7 (Variety 104.7)

Musically, what was the difference, if any, between these stations? For example, were any of them Hot AC-leaning?

I believe the working name of the Titanic was 'variety'.

They both took on water fast.

Wisely few people have copied either.

Sunny 97 was more oldies based
K-Lite was super soft
KEZ was the "fun" one
I dont remember much about MIX 101 except one of their jingles
and Variety was just trying to be another AC station.

I seem to recall that Mix had a slogan along the lines of "the best mix of the 60's through 90's", while Variety was something like "the best variety of the 70's, 80's, and 90's".
