The Verge Still has Lousy Sound

I thought once the Clear Channel stations were gone, they would dedicate more bandwidth to some of the poor-sounding music stations like The Verge. Anyone know if they will ever boost the bandwidth?

Latest rumors on XMFan are that SXM will be moving a whole bunch of Spanish-language channels, now only on 2.0 and online, into the bandwidth Clear Channel will be vacating. Apparently management feels that unassimilated Latinos are a potential subscription-dollars cash cow and wants to super-serve all portions of the demographic.

It's kind of ridiculous to ask people to pay for content and then muck up the sound. If they're not going to make an effort for all of their music channels to have quality sound, then don't offer the channels. Makes SXM look bad and makes customers angry.

Yep. This is basically satellite radio in a nutshell. Even this is the year 2013, bandwidth is finite and very costly. The compression artifacts on some of the channels, such as Blue Collar Radio are so bad that they make my ears bleed. Some channels are given higher priority and consequently higher bandwidth than others, such as the most popular music channels, followed by the less popular ones, followed by the news/talk or spoken word programming channels. By the looks of it, it'll be years and years before this changes, if ever. To really add insult to injury, both analog AM/FM and HD Radio are often in simple words better in the aspect of sound quality.
