what is a highway station?? ???

Exactly what I've been secretly wondering. Whatever insanity they're up to in Las Vegas, hopefully it'll spread across the US so we could all have highway stations!

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas...
It's awesome that the owners of the Highway Stations believe in the dance format. So now Vegas has a pure dance station and a dance friendly station (Jelli 96.7). The Highway Vibe has a big signal that can be heard from Vegas almost to LA

By the way, they're playing Super Bass now. Maybe you should dedicate a walk from Vegas to LA for that.

Dont tell him that,, he'll be calling me and DJ Perry to come and get him.. ;D

Thats great news for Vegas. This is probably a better situation than they were on with 94.5!

Nice work Mikeo! Funny how things work out.....

The Highway Vibe will have a captive audience on I-15. There are only 3 stations audible on I-15, and all 3 are the Highway stations: Highway Rock, Highway Country, and Highway Vibe.

This is better than what it used to be on 94.5. The 94.5 stick was way out in the Moapa Valley and it had no booster for its first 2 years. It was barely audible downtown and inaudible on the Strip. Even after the booster the 94.7 translator splattered on to 94.5 on the Strip. The 99.7 booster is closer to Vegas.

So would this be consider the biggest signal dance music has ever been on? It's always on a limited signal. It sucks. I'm like 30 minutes away from the high desert and the mountains block the signal in the Inland Empire area. Damn LPFM blocks them too. I almost got my wish for a dance channel in this area. :p

We do have Pride Radio in New York (on WKTU-HD2 - 103.5) but in comparison to the standard 'KTU, there really isn't that much difference. It may be a "step up" but for New York, if there can't be anything yet on standard radio, then give us something on HD! I know that Clint Dantinne (sorry if i misspelt), who was at Super 91.7 in Wilmington, DE is trying to get "Dance Radio Network" somewhere.

Or hey, I'll be "ballsy", GIVE ME something on HD2. I'll guarantee innovation, that's for sure, especially that HD stations aren't making money anyway.

Tony's right on this one...WKTU has been putting some pride singles on HD1 and rotating it on repeat on HD2..I have listened to Pride Radio Tony...It's is a good dance format, but wished it would be on HD1 for those who don't have HD radio either on their portable audio or in their car.

I already did the walk. This time I just kept it on the down low and delivered no pre-walk announcements, or details on my pre-planned routes, due to legal reasons - as I'm still on probation for multiple counts of "trespassing in certain areas" from my last walk.

I guess Highway Walking is illegal, but my "highway walking" surely did become convenient as a title in regard to this discussion after all, since it makes my post fit appropriately within the overall subject of this thread.

It is only illegal to walk on the interstates if there is no alternate road. It's also stupid to walk on a busy interstate.

With that said, it's a better reason to walk from Vegas to LA because The Highway Vibe launched 24/7, rather than because a CHR station played Super Bass.

Here are the coverage maps for the Vibe Highway stations:

http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KRXV&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KHWY&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KHYZ&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

Looks like 2nd-contour coverage in Havasu City, first-contour coverage in Laughlin; 2nd contour for most of Vegas Vegas, and the third contour of 98.1 nearly reaches San Bernardino!

The stations virtually have no coverage outside the high desert. There is some coverage in Apple Valley via their 98.3 translator and you can get spotty reception of 98.1 in Victorville through the Cajon Pass and on Hwy 138 towards Wrightwood.

99.7 has a booster in Vegas that has a stronger signal than 94.5. Look up KHYZ-2 ( not HD2, it's an analog booster). The Highway Vibe can be heard outside the highway :)
