The Vine is Going Away…

The Modesto Bee ran a very nice piece today about the demise of KVIN and the continued focus on KRVR:

Key is this quote : "Bryan said fans of The River shouldn’t expect any on-air changes to the station. It remains one of the only independently owned commercial music stations in the region."
That's too bad! Hopefully, 105.5 The River will last a bit longer. That's a very good station!

On your radio or at the KYNO transmitter? When they originally went 50K it was ok in Elk Grove, but it suffers now. My Zenith floor model had a ground wire.

they are only broadcasting 12.5kw right now. I sure hope they can get back to a full 50k at some point.

They used to be a reliable catch at night, here on the San Francisco peninsula. Checked last night and KYNO's signal wasn't there.

Somehow I missed on radioinsight and any posts here.. that Punjabi media bought, back in January..... KLOK 1170 from Tron dinh Doh, the vietnamese owner who has 1290 near san Jose.

Punjabi Media, the new owners, must be doing quite well to buy these stations

And you know what? good for them, theyre serving an audience and obviously making money.. and those are the two thigns radio is about

Where I live, the South Asian stations are often one of a few (if not the only) profitable, live-and-local commercial radio stations left in a market after everybody else sold up, left town, started running network programming. It's a community that really values and supports radio, and fair play to them. The stations, at least here, are absolutely jam-packed with commercials.

The news owners of KVIN filed an engineering STA todsy;

Contents:

This is to request a special temporary authorization for station KVIN to operate with reduced power from its nighttime transmitter site using the antenna system authorized by the Commission on November 15, 1984 in File No, BL19840801AD. AS KVIN’s licensed daytime power is 500 watts, we propose to operate during daytime hours at 125 watts pursuant to 47 CFR §73.1560(d).

KVIN is licensed to operate with separate daytime and nighttime transmitter sites, The licensee intends to perform needed maintenance at the daytime site, I has arranged for a tower crew to paint, re-lamp, and adjust the tension on the guy wires for all 3 daytime towers. To protect the safety and well-being of the crew, KVIN desires to turn off the power at the daytime site, thereby necessitating the use of the nighttime site 24 hours per day until the maintenance at the daytime site is completed.

The public interest, convenience and necessity would be well served by a grant of this STA request,
