The wake up zone at 5AM?

Anyone know why the wake up zone started early this morning, with no First Shift? The web site doesn't indicate any changes. Thanks in advance

Can't see the boys starting THAT early! Did you hear them or the open for the show? Sometime the system would jump ahead an hour.

Seems to be a replay hour from the day before. Sooo glad this is what my alarm goes off with now rather than Czaban.

Nope it was on again at 5:30. It appears there doing sports news and some canned interviews for a 1/2 before Mark and Frank come in. Sucks, I liked Czaben, wish I could here he's whole show. Not much of a Nashville sports fan and ESPN just does not cut it for me. Wonder why they made the change?

Well the "powers that be" do not like Fox Sports Radio and Nashville only gets the first hour of the Czaben show. I don't get a chance to tune in much anymore, do they still do a replay hour from 10a-11a? When I was on board we had a lot of talk about the hour between the W.U.Z and J.R. We had Liz and Bobby Sr. ( and Jr.) on Wed. Is that still on?
Oh this just hit me...With the replay at 5am they can have all the spot time....Ok I get it now...Mo Money and that is never a bad idea!

guess it couldnt be that they wanted to do something to build on the growing audience up early (see all 3 tv stations now on the air at 4am). no...couldnt be that.
sounds like one shadow b is sour grapes again.

HOW is what I said sour? Money is EVERYTHING in radio now. I worked for that and if YOU are in radio YOU should as well. WHY have the only two posts been to call me out? What have I done to you? You have the job now I don't

Makes me wonder why the Zonesters even bother with Fox any more at all. On non-game nights they could just run all 3 hours of Patrick, 7-10, and then replays of the Wake Up Zone and Sports Zone 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. When I'm up that late with the radio on, I'd sure rather hear that over Fox. Weekends they could have more replays in between Matthews, Hutton & Braverman, games, and syndicated programming. Shadow, are they locked into Fox by corporate? Would the logistics of sharing some programming with sister stations WJOX or WNML ever work?

Liz and Bobby are on Mondays and Matthews and Barnhardt are on Wednesdays. The rest of the time 10-11 a.m. is replay.

Don't you think they really would like ESPN

and may be waiting for the NFN signal increase and potential changes?

As George, Willy and Darren might agree, it takes a station working their "A" game night in, night out, stepping up and brining it to the table to make a station what it is. There's no beating around the bush, this ain't their first rodeo. Would these sports talk personalities ask questions to themselves? Of course not. It takes a team effort. There is no "I" in team, and Ol' Plaz will be the first to tell you. If you are the general manager, you have to be thinking what is the next big move this station must make. They have to stay hungry, because the best defense is a great offense. Oh, and a budget for some new cliches would be appreciated on Rutledge Hill.

No corporate contract as far as I knew. We had a 90 day out that we checked into at one time. I was asked to put together a schedule using ESPN and the shows we had but it never got off the ground. They want as many ESPN shows on a station as they could get in a market and it would have been hard to blend our format with them. I also know that we did think about sharing programming with our sister stations BUT the logistics would be hard. At one time we did share Big Orange Sunday with Knoxville but we had a time zone issue with them being an hour ahead. Oh lets not forget when we had to cut the end of a race short to get into Dougs show! I was told that his show ALWAYS had to run on time no matter what...well after that "issue" the rule was changed.
As time went and goes on Fox is just being used as a filler between games, live and canned shows and I know it was a hot topic at the station. Some folks liked it and some didn't. I was told I had bigger things to worry about and I was only to worry about Monday-Friday 6a-7p so I didn't give it a lot of thought.
Jeremy and I had a lot of talk about the subject and at times it got a bit heated but my boss at the time always put a halt to it. Truth be told I felt the same as Jeremy but my hands were tied. I'm not bashing I'm just saying that that was the way it was back in the day and I'm happy to learn that it is changing. Like courier 37027 said "you have to be thinking what is the next big move this station must make. They have to stay hungry, because the best defense is a great offense"
