The Walrus did not wake up this am......It was off the air this morning when I tuned in at 6 am Must have been out eating clams missed the oldies on the way to work oh well
 
When Shit Breaks they have to drive across the border to fix it. The shit is in Mexico
 
shit is the operative word here.. any major market fm station usually has a backup transmitter... and beyond that many now have backup sites since equipment costs are way down.

perhaps the mexico part of this equation is the problem.
 
Maybe they had a power failure and don't have a backup gen. Maybe they burned a section of transmission line. Maybe they had a transfer switch failure. There are some damn good installations in Mexico. Some not so much.
 
never been to the walrus -- im gathering its one of the not so good?

everywhere i have worked we have had a backup antenna and backup transmission line. a generator. also a backup xmtr that directly fed a backup antenna that didnt go through the xfer switch... but i realize that may not be an option for "the walrus"..

this whole thing reminds me of when kroq went off the air like over 20 years ago. the station had been off for days; management was worried that when the ratings came out they would take a huge hit. as it turns out, the ratings actually went up. i guess the message is, provide content that no one else in the market is providing to a loyal audience and it really isn't that big of deal -- they will listen when you fix the damn thing.
 
LOL - this thread looks like people who are studying and trying to figure out how to pick up a turd from the clean side.
