The Washington Post does Delilah

I need an insulin shot.......NOW!!

You know, I am not a huge fan of the show, but then it's not supposed to be for me. (I am male and generally happy) But after reading the article, and seeing what this lady has been through, I certainly have a bit more respect.

And, BW, I know what you mean, but the show isn't for you either!

Lady Deliliah tells stories. Evey night lots of stories. She does what Imus or Stern or Bubba the Lovesponge do...just to a different audience. I respect the hell out of her...but wouldn't want to deal with the baggage in her life.

Guys? Delilah brought nearly all her troubles on herself. I could tell some stories (I worked with her) but won't. Suffice it to say she sees herself as the Caucasian Oprah and thrives on emotional chaos. Whenever things calm down around her, you can count on some new crisis to mysteriously crop up. Her so-called show requires an average of about an hour per day of actual work - if that. She literally could be abducted by aliens and no one would know for many months, maybe a year.

Before someone posts a "jealous much?" retort, I'll save you the trouble ...

Yup. Wouldn't you be?

Just read the puff piece and if you can read that article and not see the emotional troubles in a very dysfunctional family, then let me point to just a few things to ponder.

Her studio walls are adorned with five large headshots of ... her.

She adopts children like some people collect matchbook covers.

The men she has allowed in her life have mostly been of questionable character and have cost her a ton of money. That money would be better spent on the needy African children she seems to want to help. Or how about some kids in the county where she lives?

Her children all work for her. They mostly live with her. Exes live off her. She laments the drama and strife yet supports it by allowing - encouraging - it to flourish. That way, she can stay away from doing work on HER.

Finally - unless she's changed dramatically recently, she has the mouth of a longshoreman and has physically come on to more than one male guest on her show.

Is this the kind, warm-hearted, Christian woman you'd like 15 seconds of advice from? It's all smoke & mirrors and it's a marvel how well it's worked. Save your posts bashing me - I can't abide hypocrisy on her level.

I need to go wash my hands ...

I don't know why you feel you have an axe to grind about her. I have never worked with her, but have met her a couple of times.

Her show is definitely not my cup of tea; I can only stand it for one or two breaks.

But who cares if she has baggage with her? Everybody does, including both you and me. There are people on this board that have baggage that's well-known in the market, that both involve their job (or former job) or their personal lives. There are people on this board that have publicly mentioned about things they do that are not only taboo to society, but is also flat-out illegal.

Yeah, Delilah's reputation is fairly well-known to people who have been in this market for awhile. That brings up a pretty important question about Delilah and the people indirectly mentioned in the last paragraph:

WHO CARES?!

Obviously, you care enough about Delilah to post what you did. I know, I just answered my own question.

AQH brings up a true and valid point.. That is most successful syndicated radio or television celebs have their own private emotional baggage. Their on the air personas are shticks, plain and simple. Rush Limbaugh struggled with drug addiction, yet in his over the air character, frequently touted the opinion that people with drug addiction should be locked up. I've met Mr. Limbaugh, and he's nothing like his on-air personality. Howard Stern has had his own off-mic personal issues but remains as a very nice man that takes care of his team, yet also berates and embarrasses them when the mic is open. Glen Beck, where rather strange in person to be sure, seems to be a very nice family man. Don Imus...well okay he's not a good example, but the point being; you folks need to understand that just like actors who find their role in the spotlight, live behind-the-scenes lives that are usually 180 degress apart from their personal lives.

Delilah has found her audience of middle aged women who somehow relate to her on-air personality. She has become very sucessful at it too. If only some of you here could be so successful at what you do.

Nobody is denying Delilah found her niche. She has....Good gravy she has!

But no, she isn't for me. Or a lot of us.

A few years ago, I recall there was talk of her branching out into TV (in a sort of reverse-Jerry Springer daytime talk show) and I thought "Oh God no..." Oprah has that one cornered already. We don't need another one......

I really and truly get a small kick out of guys like guru. There's always some dolt in these discussions who implies that if a non-fan is dissing an on-air personality, it's only because they're jealous or maybe if they can't match W2's, maybe they should just remain quiet.

Baggage and emotional radio is one thing. ENCOURAGING the baggage and using it for ratings is despicable, as is being 180 from your 'real" self on the air. Listeners believe these jerks when they boo-hoo or rant; I know that Robert Downey Jr. isn't really Iron Man. So maybe theseshows (like Delilah) need some kind of an on-air disclaimer.
