The Wave is Back!!!!

Around 11:58pm, V107.3 gave way to the return of 107.3 The Wave. Now it's all-Christmas until January 4th. It felt awkward to hear a hard rock to give way to a Wave Christmas, but at least no time was wasted. Better than a ticking clock.

So I heard that they have all their hires in place. So why advertise for air talent??? Drives this out of work air talent crazy!

All the air talent is in place? Boy I sure hope we hear Matt the Cat, Ruby Cheeks, Jeff and Flash and others from WMMS past ;). No seriously I hope that this new WAVE gives some new talent a chance in this market. Time we developed the next generation instead of rehashing the old one.

Its been two years since "The Wave" has been on the air. I would expect most of the old staff to have moved on to other things by now. :-\

I haven't been this excited since the time Ramona Robinson offered up her mole as shelter for some of the Cleveland area homeless a few winters back.

:( RIP V-107.3, hopefully you'll be around on some other frequency. The Wave was just fine hanging around on HD2 the last 2 years. Guess more ho-hum radio for the area, the doctor's office music of the 2010's. Now I have to listen to the Lake.

From what I'm hearing, it sounds like the format change means Ravenna is one of the casualties :( I remember her from her WMJI days; hopefully she lands somewhere good soon...

Yeah hopefully she ends up in the retirement home. Time for some new air talent in this town. Nothing against her personally but enough is enough. Give somebody new a shot. Clevelanders are way too hung up on the past.

Nothing wrong with the familiar and comfortable..Which is what most Clevelanders like..

For what it's worth, HD on 107.3 is going bye-bye (none of Rubber City's stations use the iBiquity standard). Right now the HD-1 and HD-2 are simply simulcasting.

If you're hoping for that with this new "Wave," get ready to be disappointed.

I like Alan Cox and I am glad he was given a chance on WMMS. Chad Zumock is a nice addition as a co-host as well. If you would ask a majority of people that post here or in the area they would want Kid Leo back in Afternoon Drive. Memories are great but you can't recreate the past.

CRI, I'm asking a serious question.

Lots of people (not just you!) complain about recycled local personalities on the big stations. Often. Constantly.

Cleveland is indeed a very familiar market. It's not quite Chicago, which violently rejects outsiders (look at what Rover went through there, though the show was horribly mismatched to the station). But why do you think 80 year-old Dick Goddard is still doing weeknight weather on Fox 8? Why do you think Lanigan has been atop the morning heap for DECADES?

So, let's take you at your word...who are these new personalities, and where can they be found?

Alan Cox is a great example. He's done well here. Is there any "farm team" for Cleveland anymore? Anyone in Akron, Canton or Youngstown, or Toledo, for example, that's ready for a move to market #30? Anyone from similar sized markets? Alan worked in Pittsburgh before he hit Chicago.

I'm not ripping you on this...I just don't like the "waaa waaaa same old people waaa waaa" whining that goes on here from time to time.

Ohio, Goddard is a whole other story. He should have retired a decade ago. Again nothing against any of these personalities. The time has come and gone for most of them. By the time Goddard is ready to retire, Andre Bernier will be retired. If Goddard wants to stay on then stay on in a reduced role maybe doing weekend mornings? There comes a point when you need to bow out gracefully. Goddard is not doing that.

I asked Jym Ganahl, who has forecasted the Columbus weather on WCMH-TV for decades about Dick Goddard.
Just curious after seeing he is still going strong at 80s.
He said Dick Goddard is one of the best weathermen around. Jym told me it's very difficult forecasting the weather in the snow
belt in Ohio. That is where Dick Goddard decades of experience pays off in Cleveland. He is probably the best weather forecaster
in all Ohio.

Again that is perfectly fine. I respect that about him. He was the best at one time. However, he has had his "time". He has been on the air in this town since the early 1960s. There comes a time when you need to step down and allow another star to shine. You can use Goddard's expertise on the weekends. It is soon going to be 2012. Goddard's role is getting more and more reduced as honestly his voice is getting weaker and he seems at times to not even know when he is on the air. I hate to see a living legend have to be dragged kicking and screaming off the air. Give Joe Tait props for at least acknowledging that his time had passed. I am afraid that Goddard will never realize that.

Early, you should know how this mucked-up business IS. They only advertise for resumes and audio just to satisfy EEOC obligations. The air talent was probably picked out a LONG time ago...

I may not be NEW talent, but I can be found in Schodack, New York. I totally agree with CleveRadioInsider. It's been WAY past time for new talent. Ravenna may have been OK on WMJI, but on V107.3, well...And who was that Hanson character? He sounded like Ben Stein, and had the same boring delivery. Perhaps if these PDs wake up, quit hiring their buddies just because they're buddies, and actually try to nurture NEW talent, maybe-just MAYBE, grand experiments like V 107.3 wouldn't have been in vein. However, that's just the way this business is. If you're not somebody's good buddy, or if you don't kiss a**, you'll get NOWHERE, except stuck as a board operator for 10 years. That's why I decided to wipe the slate clean, and pursue something else, Cleve. I volunteer for a scenic railroad in Utica, NY to get the training and experience to work at a Class 1 or Class 2 railroad in the near future, and make some REAL money. I have NO regrets, except maybe I should've abandoned radio after 3 years of getting nowhere...

Now Danny, we have communicated with the same people and with each other. And there are those with some very impressive resumes who have told us both that radio makes a good hobby but a not so great way to make a living.

I never did anything in the business because, well, I never applied myself in my late teens and early 20's. And I doubt that if I did apply myself, though I have a great voice, I don't have the instinct needed to make anything of myself.
