Station is pretty good, but it appears they are slipping in numbers as mentioned in last month's ratings from another thread.

I've noticed they are once again advertising on the electronic billboards by the freeways, but has stopped with the TV commercials.

Music-wise, I think they could add more AC titles WDOK dropped after the switch to "New 102" and The Wave can become a Soft/Smooth combo. It could have a great chance of success and survival.
 
I think Rubber City radio made a mistake trying to resurrect the "smooth Jazz" format. Much like the AAA format, Smooth Jazz is dead in Cleveland and elsewhere around the country. (If you like AAA I highly recommend the Summit 91.3 out of Akron).

I agree. I still think WNWV would be better off being more of an adult standards/gold-based AC station, like an old-school WDOK or like WLEC 1450 rather than smooth jazz/smooth ac - or perhaps they could run with the true oldies format (to pick up on a lot of what WMJI has left behind):

I agree... there's a hole in the market for a soft-leaning AC. They have some heritage talent there that could lend credibility. Smooth Jazz is a dying format. Cleveland is an "older" market and soft AC's in markets such as Tampa and Miami are doing well.
 
107.3 Would be perfect to get a 50's and 60's fprmat back for Cleveland. If you like AAA I highly recommend 87.7 Cleveland's Sound.
 
The demos for Soft AC are wayyyy too old, even in old markets. For example, WDUV is consistently #1 in Tampa's 6+ ratings, yet it's not even top 10 in the market for billing. It would be really hard for a Soft AC to work in Cleveland unless RC could find a way to get some appeal from younger listeners. Same problem with 50s/60s. 50s are mostly wiped from Classic Hits stations and the 60s are becoming more scarce by the week.

re: 60s on classic hits. Do a mediabase on WMJI. They play quite a bit of 60s titles, even pre-65. Moreso than most CC CH/oldies stations due to CLE being an older market.

@Jim4Rock... 50s/60s... as much as I love the format it's dead due to demos. I get my fix for those eras on SXM. In fact, 60s on 6 is fantastic. Quality of the audio is poor due to bandwidth issues but the music is well done.
 
Rdog I actually have praised Rubber City Radio as one of the few in the area doing things right. I simply said Smooth Jazz and AAA are niche formats that have a hard time in this area in 2012. If Rubber City Radio did an A/C Mix similar to what they did at WQMX before they went country it might work.
