The WB Handing Out Pink Slips

Cuts are underway at The WB Network, not just for lower-level workers but some senior executives. This so they can tighten up. WB is said to cut five percent of its 8,000 staff worldwide. WB in November eliminated 300 positions at the studio in November. Today they handed out pink slips to 20 jobs at WB Kids.

If they have a staff that size, to program in prime-time only (for the most part), they are WAY overstaffed to begin with. A couple of hundred should suffice.
I still maintain that the best business move the WB could make is to merge their programming with UPN and PAX - cherrypick the "best" of each, and make one viable network contender. You can only cut the pie into so many peces before nobody gets more than crumbs. The affiliates that then overlap become indies in their respective markets, and counter-program.

Not a bad idea at all. Problem is the the affiliates that overlap become homes to 24 hour infomercials, and Daystar or TBN stations

Wonder if they considered getting rid of the WB 100+ stations group... I'd think that would be an easy way to control costs. It was a great idea when they started it since it got the WB into small markets, but with the technology these days it's not needed anymore as current host stations could just pick up the WB affiliation and run it as a sub-channel on their DT.

Well here in Milwaukee, what would happen is that WVTV would go back to being a Independent and most likely pick up the Milwaukee Bucks Basketball games from WCGV so that WCGV, ch. 24 can concentrate on airing UPN stuff rather than interrupt UPN Network programs for Bucks Basketball.
