The Weather Channel HD

Has anyone seen the new improved Weather Channel in HD yet? Insight has not put it on yet. You can see an improvement in the NTSC video, but the way they are framing their studio shots, the anchors and meteorologists look tiny, almost like small children, when they are standing at the maps.

That's the one negative about it so far. The screen they stand in front of isn't as clear to the home viewer like the existing graphic they'd stand in front of was. None of the QAM channels on my TV aren't passing through the HD picture at all. (I have Comcast here in New Britain, CT.)

Yes, the graphics are very interesting and the new chyron is very sharp. Clearly they spent a lot of time getting all of the new stuff up and running. Nice effort. The comments on how it looks in NTSC are correct. The personalities look tiny in order to favor the whiz-bang graphics. I am sure it all looks great in HD and that is clearly TWC's main focus now. NTSC is relegated to the back seat.

All that being said, my question is, who's carrying the HD channel? Heck, Comcast in our area doesn't even offer Discovery HD! I can't imagine when they will get around to adding TWC-HD.

I don't understand spending the millions I know they must have spent just to get better looking graphics. I mean, it's the weather channel. 99% of their programing comes from inside a studio. I can see outside sporting events in HD, since I'm a football fan. But it's the Weather Channel. I don't need to see the warm front bringing us the storms in HD.

Maybe when the next major hurricane hits, they will show off a lot more than before and at the same time saying "hd" every chance they get.

The giant wide screen tv is nice, but they need to fix the framing of the meteorologists. The new bottom scroll needs some adjustments because the text is smaller than before and the tabs tends to shift a little too fast. Other than that, everything looks alright.

I think it's a requirement they say "HD" every third sentence.
