"The Weather Channel" Layoffs

Man, I didn't think it could get that bad. One of the top cable networks in the country and they are announcing layoffs. As many may know, they were bought by NBC a few months ago. This was very unexpected since NBC is giving Weather Plus the cut. So anyone have any idea or preditions about who is leaving the network. Im guessing some of those experts, maybe the climate expert, the reporters, and maybe a couple of on-air personalities.

Basically, it breaks down this way:

-3 OCM's were released

-The environmental department (think Forecast Earth-yuck!) was entirely axed

-One longtime off-air meteorologist was relieved of his duties

-The Road Crew was axed

I run a TWC fansite and message boards. stop by the boards for more info:

thank you and i will check out your site.

Dave old friend, I doubt you'll read this but I wanted to let you know that you'll be missed. You were as much a part of TWC fabric as the late John Hope. Your departure leaves very few of the old guard at TWC. The days of John Coleman and Landmark are quickly fading in memory. We never know how good we had it till it was gone. Take care my friend. I do hope you get home to Philly for the holidays.

i hate to say but you know the weather channel had a rep of firing OCMs because of age. although eboni is not that old i really dont know the reason why she was let go. As long as they didnt get rid of my boy..Mr Cantore.

Dave Schwartz is quite a talent. We worked with him on radio, where he could ad lib with the best of our staff talent, and is a unique personality on television, as well. The marketplace will respond. He should have no trouble getting a gig somewhere, perhaps his hometown. Getting laid off can be a positive career move, even in this environment.

I was shocked to hear about cheryl Lemke, her husband Rob Lee talked about it on Kicks a coupple of days before Thanksgiving. She was there 20 years.

Couldn't this be where the OCM's who were let go were people whose contracts had expired and weren't yet renewed. This would be a way to avoid having to hand out any severance, though I do not know for a fact if whether or not any of the cut OCM's received any severance package.
