The Weather Channel Running MJ's Songs During Local Breaks

I don't know if this is happening in other parts of the US. But when TWC goes into local forecast breaks (like it did a few seconds ago)
they are using Michael Jackson's songs as their music bed. I don't know who picks the music. But it can go from The Stones to David Sanborn. And now to MJ.

I remember in the earliest days of the Weather Channel when they would play pop music during the local weather segments. By the mid-80s, they had replaced that with spacey, new-agey music. Later, it became bland Muzak. I guess they're back full circle.

Ok, this is a bit over the top now!! Enough MJ.

On June 1st, the Smooth Jazz music that TWC was using as background music was replaced with instrumental rock. There are a lot of people up in arms, blaming new parent NBC Universal wanting to attract a broader audience. The music was a popular draw for some, which lead to TWC releasing 2 CD's of the music (this was before the NBCU and partners acquisition). The MJ music was because of today's memorial service. I believe this is the very first time TWC has done something like this.

I suspect vocal music will be coming soon, if/when they 86 the Vocal Local (voice reading of the forecast) feature from the Intellistar computers. It won't be long before we hear Katy Perry's "Hot 'N Cold" over the local graphics.

Yes, because if there's one thing that would kill the usefulness of the channel, it's opening up 'the playlist' when doing Weather on the 8's. :D

No, I'm sure you know perfectly well that TWC has been going downhill for years. I even saw a "Breaking News" logo on there the other day. Weather is always changing, so I don't think we need to call it breaking news.

Now they're running promos with Al Roker and Brian Williams to tout Roker's new shift on TWC starting at 6 am ET. Great, now they're anchored by an entertainer who knows little about the weather! What's next, a simulcast of the Today Show? Meredith Viera with airport delays? How low can you go?

The downhill slide continues for this once-great channel - only now the slope is even steeper. Thanks NBC-Universal! You stink!

Maybe Chris Matthews can shout some weather commentary at us too. I've heard lightning can give you a "tingling feeling up your leg." ;D

"Billie Jean's Not My Lover" underneath the VO Guy "Currently in Your Area 62 Degrees with Thunderstorms nearby."

Which makes just as much sense as a DJ talking over the music for the entire length of the song.

Seriously, though, why would the Weather Channel be any different than the many cable channels that have changed their image/branding in recent years?

I fully expect weather movies on TWC are next. "Tonight, right after local on the 8's, it's Twister starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton! Followed by an all-new special storm stories, The Making of Twister!"

TWC could start airing music videos of songs that mention rain... At that pace, they might play more videos than MTV and VH1 combined!

Can you say Umbrella ella eh eh? Wouldn't mind seeing Jenna Fisher replace Rhianna fpr that one.

I remember back in the day TLC used to air shows about twisters and hurricanes. Even Discovery did. These days I don't even see TLC or Discovery air shows like that only The Weather Channel.

Discovery does air Storm Chasers with Reed Timmer in the fall.

Of course not! Jenna Fisher's white! Even Al Roker gets slammed by you people. Any shot at ripping a black entertainer can be found on radio-info. Maybe turn your t.v down & crank up your John Tesh c.ds. ::)

I can see that "weather on the 8s" followed by The Eurythmics- Here Comes The Rain Again, followed by Rock You Like A Hurricane by The Scorpions.
