The Weird Beard

Russ Knight, "The Weird Beard," passed away Friday, October 12th at the age of 80. Russ, who was heard nightly during the British Invasion days, could be heard nightly on "The Big 6-10 KILT." He emceed when "The Beatles" came to town in 1965 at "The Coliseum." Russ also had a huge following on "The Mighty 11-90, KLIF" in Dallas.

If I'm not mistaken, it's the Weird Beard that we hear on the infamous bootleg of the Beatles concert at the Coliseum in 1965, trying in vain to calm the kids down. "If you'll just sit down for a second....Keep you seat...Everyone please keep your seat so that everyone can see! And hollering will not bring them on any quicker! So be really quiet! (SFX: pubescent screams)"

I listened to the Weird Beard when I was in elementary school. He and Steve Lundy warped my mind and I have spent my life working in radio. Never got to work with Russ but I did work with Lundy at KENR.

Got to talk with Russ the only time I ever won a radio contest (a six-pack of Canada Dry Wink) in 1962 on KLIF...
