the whiny awards?

weei never misses an opportunity to make money.

i thought their high-priced super bowl party in phoenix was ridiculous. but apparently there are people willing to shell out $200+ to see the 'whiny awards' in person.

it makes me scratch my head.

dont count on me to spend any dough just to meet dakota from braintree, or frank from gloucester or bill from new hampshire.

$200+ sheesh!

I think the 200.00 was for alot more than the admission price....without looking into it, i think it included food, vip seats, etc......plus didnt some of the proceeds go to charity?

Jeesh, some people love to moan at anything

im not moaning. if anything im laughing at anyone who would pay to go to such an event. and 'eei is laughing all the way to the bank.

yes $200 was the premium package. but who would pay $75 or even $30 for this 'awards' show? is it worth $30 to see an old man in a yankees jacket.... or see the fellow who calls ordway a 'fat bastard'?

it is ridiculous. or maybe im the one that is out of the loop.

I have no problem with someone wanting to spend their money to do something they like.
We all have something we spend too much money on.

Good for the listeners, EEI and the charity. It's their money, not yours.

My first reaction when I read this entire thread was the line Tom Hanks said in the film: FORREST GUMP:

"Stupid is as stupid does...Lieutenant Dan"

I guess some people have spare cash to throw around for practically anything?

One thing that's certain....I SURE DON'T! :p

argytunes

some people have god knows how much money to throw around on over the hill "classic rock" talent as well. Or pay a few hundred for a Sox game from a scalper, uh "ticket agent." Depends on what you like, I suppose...

Yeah, we all know WEEI is operated as a philanthropy by the Field family, out of the goodness of their hearts. They pay for all operating costs out of their own pockets and don't make a dime off of it. ::)

So, we'll just ignore the fact that the Whiner Line is among the largest "circulation builders" WEEI has...the fact that on some days it gets more calls than the entire Howie Carr show down the hall...and that some people will pay to get into such an event. Personally, I think the whole thing is a monument to childish hero worship and the immature attitude that "he who shouts loudest and longest wins the argument," but I'm also not stupid enough to argue with that kind of success. The top-rated sports-talk station in the country didn't get that way by failing to understand how to push its listeners' buttons.

The Whiney Awards show wasn't even on the air. Good grief, who are they bothering? Isn't there enough on 'EEI to complain about............like Callahan, Meterparel, Larry Johnson, et al?

jeez. im not telling them how they should spend their money. if someone wants to pay money to go to such an event. fine. but i also have a right to an opinion. i think the whole thing is silly and childish.

i do have one complaint...after the first week or so i got really tired of hearing weei promote this event practically non-stop, especially during the big show.

oh one question, i honestly dont know....who decides the 'winners' of these whiny awards?

I'm pretty sure it's Brett and Andy (the Big Show producers).

And don't forget about an open bar for a little while. :)

I hear you! I think it's silly, childish, and gross, for a bunch of fat men to take their shirts off and paint their stomach's with the teams logo on it.
When the team scores, they act like their playing the game. These guys get winded walking to the bathroom.
Hey, it's their money. ;D

this reminds me of the people that complain about the jimmy fund radio thon....remember that people ?....people whining about how they were tired of hearing kids talk about how sick they were, wanting more sox talk...etc

Part of the reason the ticket prices were so high is because it was at the Wang Center. Im sure that's not a cheap place to rent out for the evening.

it is a good cause but makes for horrible radio.

that is just being honest...

i also hate listening to npr or watching pbs during their pledge drives.

I guess you could call this a whine.. or a comment... it always amuses me when people talk the teams using "we"... as in "we need to get a new running back." Unless you're on the team, you should say "The Pats need a new running back".

AMEN TO THAT! This is a huge pet peeve of mine. I absolutely can't stand when a friend says "Yeah, we won last night"
So of course I have to add it, "Really? I didn't see the press conference that announced you as a roster addition"

This was an actual voicemail left to me after the Sox clinched the pennant last year and heading to the World Series by a friend of mine who absolutely "loves" the Red Sox (but he couldn't tell ya what position Mike Lowell plays...

"Woohoo! We did it! I can't believe we actually did it! We're going to the playoffs!"

Yes, he said playoffs. LOL

I wish that 'EEI would identify some of the whiners at the Whineys on the pictures on their website. I'm curious to see what these people look like. I picture Danny from Quincy as a raving psycho, Bill from NH as a big blowhard, The Answer Man as a little weasel, etc.

By the way. Is it my 1962 Univac computer or is the 'EEI website very slow?

I like the one where when their team is winning it's WE won, WE won, but when they're in a slump it's THOSE bums.
Or grown men wearing grown men's game shirts. Kinda creepy, you think?
