The White Stripes - Icky Thump

What are your thoughts on their new single, "Icky Thump", off their forthcoming album of the same name.

I like it. It sounds like their earlier stuff.

And it looks like they're getting into politics for the first time in their career as well...

Well Americans - what nothing better to do?
Why don't you kick yourselves out - you're an immigrant too.
Who's using who? What should we do?
Well you can't be a pimp and a prostitute too!

I've never been a huge fan of The White Stripes.....but I really like Icky Thump. Great guitar riff, politically charged lyrics, memorable title, and kinda catchy to boot. I think its a great alternative rock track. I don't know that I see Icky Thump crossing over to Active the same way that Seven Nation Army did....time will tell. Either way I think even the alterna-snobs will be on board with this one (unlike the new Linkin Park tune).

I agree. It sounds like nothing else on radio now and that's a great thing.

"Icky Thump" is absolutely, hair-raisingly incredible. Between it's bulletproof guitar swagger, snake-charming solos, and Jack shrieking as though he's speaking in tongues, it'll go a long way to corrupting the Youth of America this summer. The great thing about the White Stripes is they've learned the one classic rock trick all the other emo/screamo meatheads can't figure out: they let their songs breathe. What they inject in between is genuine, not-so-sure-what's-going-to-happen-next rock and roll swagger.

Well, at least, that's what I said about it on the air on Friday.

To put it in the words of Ron Burgundy, it's "baby-making music." Play frequently, and enjoy.

The White Stripes have never had anything in common at all with those emo-pop punk pukes. There is no need for a comparison as the White Stripes are above that trash! Jack White is clearly the true modern king of rock and roll!
