I don't see Flinn blowing up The Pig so soon after moving to 87.7.
Now, I'm not well versed in the machinations of the Memphis market but after seeing Taylor on Radio-Info pick up this story and then seeing the Memphis 12+ ratings, I am really wondering which of his properties would be the most likely candidate for a flip? I'm ruling out all the FMs because they are doing really well, or well enough.
Taylor mentioned only 1030 and 1210. I think 1030 may make money (isn't it brokered?) so it's off the list. 1210 isn't much in the ratings, but how about the nighttime signal? I don't recall it being much of a performer from Germantown on south. But the TX site is right up in the burbs so that might work to an advantage.
Then again I've tried to tune in while up around Wolfchase and it almost never sounded very good, like it was always on flea power.
1240 is not a full metro signal, so that's out.
That leaves 560 and 1430. Both have good signals at night where it counts, although 1430's daytime signal looks a bit flaccid next to WREC's.
All things being equal I'd personally pick 560 simply because it's a well known dial position, the coverage and it's in a currently crowded field of sports talk. But I don't know, maybe it makes money that belies the 0.8 12+ number. All I know is I'd rather be #3 in talk than #3 in sports talk, because the field is ripe for the picking if done right. KWAM's a mess and WREC has to tow the Clear Channel lineup.
That leaves 1430. I'm sure Disney would shed no tear losing the station, and it has never shown up in the ratings as far as I've seen. It's not what I'd call a full market signal but it does transmit from up in the suburbs around Wolfchase Galleria and has a decent amount of nighttime coverage if the maps are to be believed.
What say ye, Memphians?
