THE WIRE: Best TV show ever?

Seriously, I have caught up through season four and can't wait for season five in a couple weeks. Just extraordinary stuff. Obviously this is a board for radio talk, but I'm interested to hear what some of the sharp minds around here tend to agree. If you haven't seen it, just rent or buy Season 1, start going, and thank me later.

I agree 100%. It is the single best series ever produced. Intelligent, gripping, and amazing.

The best part is that Season Five starts next week - and it's all about (Drumroll) The MEDIA!

When people ask me what my "favorite" this or that is, I usually don't have an answer because I don't think that way - so I wouldn't say The Wire is necessarily the BEST show ever, but it's certainly among my favorites of all time.

It may not be for everyone because it really takes concentration. I have to admit that the first two episodes of the first season were too much work for me at first, and I gave it up. But I watched the first season replay later that same year, and really got into it.

Throughout the three seasons, I'd often watch the episodes a second time just to clear up plot points I found confusing the first time around.

By the way - most of my other all time favorites are also HBO series - Sopranos, Big Love, Deadwood, and Six Feet Under...before it went over the top, in any case.

I agree that the Wire is a great show. Hard to say if it's the best. Only watched each season once live. The Wire is something you have to devote your entire attention to. I admit that I didn't like season 2 because it was difficult for me to follow. All others I loved.

I feel the same way...that second season completely lost me. I only saw the final episode of season three, and season four was great. I just hope that The Wire doesn't end in the same stupid manner that Oz did (and I loved Oz until that final episode).
