The Wire gets cut

Champlain's latest[EDIT*] effort can be heard through the Wire link: http://champlainradio.com/

As I posted on Facebook: You gotta love how terrible Burlington radio is. The Wire (hard rock station) has apparently flipped to Mix 102.3, an adult-leaning Top 40 station. Is there a website? No. Is there a Facebook page? No. Is the station compelling? No. I mean, you launch a station on the day Obama is in town, and you don't have anybody on the air talking about that? All you have is a canned jock taking about pablum and movies? Not introducing herself or talking about the station? What a cheap, low-end medium.

I don't believe what I am hearing (okay, it's NEBCAST so in actuality I do). I am figuring that this jock is either satellite fed (maybe satellite format) or shipped in tracker...it really is bad though so I tend to believe it is local. The jock is a puker, is talking about nothing compelling and is all around terrible. I know it is day 1 but the music is all over the place. So based on all that I am thinking they are doing it locally but I really can't tell because besides the imaging there is nothing local.

Out of market VT eh? "So we were talking here at 'the station' today about..."

"It's 26 minutes past the hour..."
Does another station in champ. valley try to go for rock audience? (besides WIZN which already is classic rock, but...active rock?)

I saw nothing when I searched Facebook for Mix 102.3.

And I'm reading this guy's site now. Writes for Jay Leno? Yeah, he's a hoot. And when the F did this guy do mornings in LA? Why haven't I heard of him?

Woah! so much for my end of season BBQ's and Beers blasting WGIR up at the Jet at Jay Peak. this completely sucks. And Yes, I did send a resume to the wire many of times. it was one of the last kick ass radio stations left. BTW, most people 20-40's were listening to the WIRE and Abitron won't pick it up because seriously who is going to take the time to fill out arbitron I'll go with NOBODY. Adult standards will say they have good ratings because it will be played in shopping malls and stores but in Reality, thats it who the hell is actually going to listen.

Jamie, a rock sign-on is a folly in 2012. Either you've done it forever like WIZN, or you don't stand a chance. I'm surprised that silly experiment lasted as long as it did. The guys in my age group (almost 30) still rock out to Skynyrd and the like. They're not discovering today's hard rock. And when they're not rocking out, they're listening to hip hop. Despite your assertions, most people 20-40 were not listening to The Wire.

I know you loved the Wire as a radio fan, but in terms of real world business, a station with the marketing budget they don't have is not going to usurp WIZN as Burlington's rock station of record. Even Champ threw in the towel.

As for you sending a resume, the only way you're getting a job there is if you can a) sell like a madman or b) oversee four stations that consist of nothing more than voicetracks and music. That's what that company does. Salespeople and PD to oversee the air product. That's it. There's no live bodies in there.

Will, Fingers Metal shop just came back on 102.3 WBAB long island down here in the city. It is becoming very popular also because eddie trunk has become a sellout. I can see the standpoint for advertising revenue why rock is dead no clients to sell to. I can't really get TOS on Jet side but Tramside you can get it here and there. CHOM also comes in but does not play much of todays hard rock. As for my 20-40 saying yes you are right. What I meant to say is for active rockers. there are many out there for the type of stuff I do Ski, bike, Hang around with beer brewry people. I can see it as a standpoint in the the city. As for me on a top 40 station, I have been offered a few jobs but could I actually never saw myself working out as the "top 40 guy voice" on the radio. I could never talk to the lady's

I don't know the burlington market very well, but as far as a hard rock station that is a new comer and doing very well, I think the bone in portland is an excellent example. I hear that station around town a lot, conveince stores, the city recycling station, the kitchen at the restaurant i work at, etc. They play a very current based active rock format, and with a very limited non full market signal do very well. Hard rock is like any radio format, do it well, and it can be successful.

There's also a 107.1 The Bone in Allentown/Scranton. It and The Bone in Portland are owned by the same company.

Someone on wikipedia, WIER entry, posted:"WIER switched to adult contemporary as "Mix 102.3" on March 30, 2012, filling the format hole left by WEZF after that station had flipped from adult contemporary to hot adult contemporary a few weeks earlier. The AC format appeals to be more adult top 40 leaning."

Star goes after the Montreal audience
http://blog.fagstein.com/2011/10/26/wezf-attack-ad/
>>This ad is from Star 92.9 WEZF, a station based in Burlington, Vermont, that targets the Montreal audience even though it's not incredibly easy to pick up here if you're not in a car. In case you can't tell from the references to Aaron, Tasso, The Q and 92.5, the ad is a direct attack on The Beat (CFQR, now CKBE) and its programming changes.

They've finally found a niche. They've been on 3 frequencies and become more TOSesque rather than classic rock based. They've found their existence between BLM and CYY.
