The WNWR situation

Any clues about what is going on at WNWR? I had about an hour to kill at the Ridley Park train station yesterday. Sitting outside, I decided to check out the AM band and see signal strength of stations on my Grundig YB 400PE.

Nothing out of the ordinary, except one thing. WNWR was on the air. During the 3pm hour, they were playing psychedelic and psych-like music friom the late 60's and early 70's. Seemed to have a female host and a male voice for liners. Songs include Hendricks, Count Five, Stones, Pink Floyd, etc.

Not a bad mix of music if you are into that brand of "oldies", which certainly isn't being played anywhere else.

Anyone know what's going on? Is it an all day thing or just and hour or two?

It's part of the CRI(China Radio International)programming they now carry. A good deal of the ethnic programming they carried is now on WWDB 860.

I listened on line for awhile today. Yes, I heard the CRI programming and T.O.H news.

The entire thing is strange. T.O.H. news is in English. Music to fill in gaps before shows begin is American dance/hip-hop.

Perhaps the intended audience is young Asian-Americans?

Okay i'm not in Philly now but gimmi a stream. i gotta check this out or at least a program schedule. i bet its on the web someware.

I was listening to the stream yesterday and it was not that bad. Just strange content.

I have been following that station since the mid-60's and just thave an interest in it. I enjoy following what is happening to the once great AM stations. 1540 was a big player, even though daytime only (with an FM before that band became the leader) with WRCP "Real Country Power."
