The Wolf HOWLS!!!

Who's producing the imaging over there? MAJOR butt-kickin' stuff! It was really cool how they launched. Any idea if they farm out that stuff or if someone like Chad Pierce got pulled from Entercom Sacramento to do it?

They keep it up, SF will live and breathe these guys.

The Wolf really does sound good! I wish a NYC station would follow their lead and launch a "full-throttle" country station like them! Most stations have become so dull and boring. ::) Thanks goodness for satellite!

If "The Wolf" came howling into Los Angeles to challenge KKGO-105.1, You can say bye bye to "GO COUNTRY"> Saul would have to find a new format for 105.1.

I am still going back and forth on how well The Wolf is doing.

The country music format has not been doing well in the past years and I think although things may be looking up right now, but I still feel that the station won't last TOO long.... I'd give about 6-8 months before drawing any conclusions.

Most of you on this board has more expertise with the radio industry than I do, so I am hoping you guys are correct that The Wolf will be a successful station.

Just my thoughts on it.

That's just great...two stations fighting over a 1.8 share. Gee the imaging is on target...now I like country music....Give me a break.

For the record, I am not a country fan. It's the ability to have an objective opinion of the station's branding conduct. Country's become very Hot AC in it's imaging AND music (in some ways). Look, it's freaking HUGE and not as much a throwaway as most... lemme guess, Kramer, ROCK guys think.

BTW, i heard Krash Creative did the launch prod. Great job!

Gee...I'm not a country fan so I must like uh....Yah ....Rock! (doh!)

I just feel that the country lifegroup is too small in the Bay Area. That goes for Rock too, which I am not much a fan of either.

I wish Entercom success, but I just don't see it being "freakin' HUGE" as you put it, even if it sounds better than Bonneville's attempt a couple of years back.

Rock...That's funny. Oh incidentally...country and active rock succeed in in like markets...White and less sohpisticated.

Sure, Country Stations fail in some places and succeed in others-- just like active rock ones do... but my qualm is the incorrect assumption that a "less sophisticated" market (which-- by the way-- I believe is a dangerous, fat turd of a comment) is a major factor in determining whether a station succeeds. Like bad programming/management strategy isn't going to call those shots?

Today's Country is leaning WAY pop(ular, as in "mass appeal"). It's no less Top 40 than it is NOT twang. Does it cater to people who don't prefer to spend all day on an NPR-ish soapbox? Sure. Simply presented... okay. But let's not forget that these "less sophisticated" formats' fans (note that I don't call them "listeners") have a TON of passion, and that's a qualifying factor found everywhere-- no matter how many escapist-catering "free wi-fi" coffee shops in which you can lose yourself. Buying the myth that the Bay Area is only occupied by scholars, poets, dreamers, and magical fairy dusted modern-day hippies on a pink-triangled liberal quest for peace and love is the same kind of way to scew up a station as going to a smaller mid-western town and treating everybody like a stupid redneck. Doesn't fly, carries big weight of ignorance, and pisses people off. I'll bet there are plenty of folks in the 'Area who are tired of the stereotype.

I greatly respect your thoughts, and appologize for my former miscalculations.

I don't spend much time on these boards, but a friend told me to check out yalls complements on here... THANK YOU for the kind words! I'm Matt - I'm The Wolf's imaging director here in SF (moved here from The Wolf in Dallas shortly after the station launched). Everyone on staff writes, I produce most of the stuff along with a few freelance peops who handle mainly jingles and the shorter sweepers...

Yall take care. [email protected] if you got more questions/ideas/wanna network etc. Thanks again for the good vibes!

:) -pm

This format is doing what it's designed to do. It's not a Country format. It's based on showbiz, just like the KFRC of the 70's and 80's you speak of on this board.
