The WOLF Huntsville

UPDATE: 93.3 is off the air. It has been all weekend. I assume this is on purpose in prep for the format change and/or move to the new CP location.

As of early this afternoon 93.3 is "Movie 93.3" playing only movie soundtracks. This wouldn't be a bad permanent format. ;)

Heh. At least it's something different, eh?

There was a station in Columbus, Ohio recently that stunted with TV themes, that was pretty good. Throw 'em on an HD-2 channel and see what happens. ;)

Just found out the WXQW calls are being parked already, on... You guessed it, 660 AM in Fairhope! That must be Cumulus' dumping ground. ;D

I Was Listening to Movie 93.3 this evening, and noticed their liners sounded like something thrown together, kinda like 101 WYDE's when they were playing christmas music over 4th of July weekend. (anyone remember that?) After hearing the same Tina Turner song twice in the same hour, the station went off air around 5:15 this evening. I'll be sure to update...
I'm coo coo for coco puffs

Yea I'm sure the "Movie 93.3" is just a stunt. Who knows, maybe they'll be something different tomorrow like WYDE did it and change the name every day for a few days LOL. I hope not. Yes they are off the air again for the night. I haven't been able to confirm it or listen to it myself long enough to find out but my guess is they are testing their new transmitter and tower site.

I can already see it in the headlines.... Tues...Fun 93.3. Wed....Star 93.3. Thurs..... The New 93.3.... Fri...93.3 The Bull! Everyday is a different slogan.

It sounds decent but I'm not hearing DJs yet. I was thinking H'ville only had one country station before now. I know other signals get into H'vill but I think Cumulus went to a format they can win with.

You are right. That was a discussion we had on this board a little while back. There are a few other stations that get into Huntsville a little but WDRM was the only one with a clear city grade signal until now. So technically there are other country stations that can be heard in Huntsville, but WDRM, and now 93.3 The Wolf, are the only actual "Huntsville" country stations. Cumulus may not be able to win against WDRM, but they will be able to make money with that format whether they win or not. This is the 3rd time 93.3 has been a country station. Maybe the 3rd time is the charm. I hope cumulus' budget for this new station is pretty large because they are going to have to sink some money into this station and give it all they've got if they plan on beating WDRM.

The sad thing about this is the fact that the new owners probably will not sink alot of money into beating WDRM. Bill D. was able to and did in alot of cases sink alot of money into trying to make 93.3 better and also beat WDRM, but the signal was the major issue there. Hopefully the jocks there will want to get out and make the station new, exciting and fun and give Huntsville something new to talk about. I was fortunate to have worked there just at the time of the flip to Mix 93 and in fact did the last live break on the Possum. Could have given DRM a run for their money had there not been the big signal issue. The jock formerly known as "Mustang" Mike Kelly.

My question is... When has the little spunky competitor ever really beaten the big dog when they go toe-to-toe? I can't think of any right off hand. Hot 97 and Party 92.5 didn't make a dent in the Q in Birmingham, and 102.5 struggled against WZZK until they moved off the Tuscasloosa tall tower and into town.

Q 100 in Atlanta has never really beaten Star 94 (and now they're moving to 99.7, killing 99X).

That's all I can come up with at the moment...
